@@420aloha420 Do it!! I've tried it in my 79 JMP and my 1x12 800 combo and it opens them right up. It's not like just using a pedal it just turns yr amp into a weapon

My cat does exactly the same thing when I pick him up, looks around trying to work out a way of extricating himself and whether the effort is worth it and will affect his timely access to food later.

I have the Lynch V2 one. Sometimes I use it in my 2204, but I put a 12AU7 in the slot on the left. That way, I can roll the guitar volume down and get a usable clean....then, it still smashes with it up. Overall, I think I actually prefer a drive pedal before the amp...(an exotic BB pre-SD-1 type)....the hot mod tone does turn guitarists heads when they hear it, though 😎

I loved the JTM 45 with the mod. Stonkin' rock tones for days.

I was wondering how the hot mod would be in the JTM clone I'm building. I am thoroughly sold. That was awesome.

Hey Leon, not sure if you were aware. David at hot mods has started shipping these with a 12at7 (ecc83) in the first slot. I put one in mine and my Ceriatone Molecular is even tighter and meaner now. Thought you might like to try it if you haven't already. Made a bit of a difference for me. Cheers

Thanks for your interest Ryan! While it would technically work in many other amps like old Fenders, I didn't tune the circuit for those amps. So I'd rather just sell these into applications where I know they'll absolutely work great rather than risk having disappointed customers. David is very active on the Marshall Facebook group, been dying to try one with my 2203! It’s basically an improved and updated version of the old Soldano Hot Mod with 12AX7s, and sounds sweet! He also did a limited collaboration with George Lynch with a Lynch mod version.

I had one in my 1979 2203 and I have to say, it made a world of difference. I regret selling my amp but I kept my Hot Mod. It’s amazing & I plan on using it on a Molecular that I’m purchasing.

That one looks awesome, having a knob to fine tune the gain seems perfect

Dave's a great guy he convinced me after a long time (emails going back and fourth) to sell my Mini Jubilee & get the Studio Classic then put in the V2. It's sounds great. Better than i could have imagined. What band is the poster all the way in the back behind all the guitars? Ragdoll? It's hard to see.

Yeah it's actually a promo photo that a fan printed and bought to a show (in New Mexico from memory) so I had to keep one and put it up!

Hey Leon, I saw this video (I watch all your videos) and I decided I had to have this Hot Mod. I bought the Ceriatone Molecular last year after I saw your video on that too. So can you tell me which tube socket this hot mod goes in on the Molecular? I never got a manual or anything with it so I don't know which tubes are for what. Thanks man! Great stuff as always!

Similar basic circuits. The Hot Mod V2 Evo has more of a bass cut than the Lynch which is tuned with a little more bass. The gain switch on the Evo when down is equal to the Lynch at 1 o’clock on the gain dial. With the HMV2E gain switch in the Up position it is equal to the Lynch gain knob full up. Also $299 for the Lynch vs $199 for the Hot Mod V2 Evo.

Can the hot mod be used in a 67 fender bassman AB165 circuit?

It technically can because the Fender does use a cathode follower circuit. But even though there are similarities to the Fender circuit, it’s still really tuned for Marshall.

It won't unfortunately because the Origin doesn't use a traditional cathode follower tone stack (despite its name) like the original models. Check www.legendarytones.com for info about compatibility as it will work in many other applications. Thanks!

I personally prefer the Lynch Hot Mod, the low end is a bit tighter than this one.

The Ceriatone sounded great! The Marshall hmm, not so much. The Marshall didn't sound real useable to me maybe a little more mods needed on that amp. Great for cleaner Classic Rock. I dont see putting this apparatus into the Marshall that a pedal couldn't do to help it. The Ceriatone was an all out Tone Bully with this device.
