Fun fact: The manual to Earthworm Jim 2 contained a Table of Contents, Table of Continents, and a Contents of Table which listed all the screws and wood needed to build a table. They really dialed the absurdity up to 11 and eight year old me loved every minute of it.

Please Review Brain Dead 13the video game

I'm kind of surprised that he didn't mentioned "Andy Asteroids?" level. Music from that level was so catchy, it still just plays in my head occasionally.

I like how they basically tried redeeming themselves after the body horror in the intestine level so in the second game they had a level which is a land full of gourmet foods. It's like they're saving, sorry for grossing you out, fight a living steak instead."

The music in the level "What the Heck" is actually Night on Bald Mountain composed by Modest Mussorgsky

Music/sfx, design, and even difficult gameplay (if you enjoy a challenge) are all beyond stellar, which is the only flaw people seem to give this (and a hilariously disappointing ending.) The game is progressively hard because it chooses to be, not because of bad controls from the beginning like Top Gun. It's like people complaining about Resident Evil tank controls. Believe it or not, it just takes practice, but everything is consistent and clear so you can improve, which is why people still do speedruns and aren't complaining about broken controls, but with Earthworm Jim everyone knows how to platform so there's even less of a learning curve but more of a difficulty curve, which more games should have.

I got Earthworm Jim for SNES maybe 2 weeks after release. Absolutely loved that game and still do. 90s absurdity at it's finest and it was glorious.

The fact he’s still going on is so inspiring. I hope this never ends.

I'm surprised that he didn't talk about how the guys who worked on the Sega version of Aladdin also worked on this game. Hence why it feels so smoothy animated and like a cartoon.

To this day, the blind cave salamander level with Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata is such a mystery to me.

Earthworm Jim 2 was a genius game. Back then I loved it so much. Very diverse and original. Definitely it was a great game for me.

James really hit gold with AVGN. All these years later, and the show still goes on with new episodes 😃 Thank you James and everyone who has worked on this show. 👍

EWJ2 was hands down my fav childhood game, the salamander stage plays Moonlight Sonata. The menu song is an ear worm (haha) too. This game was the embodiment of “lol random *holds up spork*” of the 90s.

Hearing a 16 bit rendition of Moonlight Sonata is still quite a unique feeling for me (it’s one of my favorite piano pieces). And since the SNES and Genesis each had a unique sound to their music due to their different sound chips I feel like each version fits a slightly different mood.

Thank you for covering the Jim games!!! The series is very dear to me since it was one of my childhood favorites. Something about how strange and wacky Jim is as a character is oddly comforting for me.

this brought back so many memories. I loved these games as a kid and also the animated show.

The nerd looking old makes me feel old.

I've been waiting over a decade to hear what avgn had to say on earthworm Jim 3d. it was the most anger I had ever felt towards a video game when I was a kid back when you would rent video games on the weekends. That psychrow boss fight was easily the most frustrating experience I've ever had in a video game.

As a 90s kid, watching this episode was pure joy.

The Neverhood series should totally be next, it's so creative and made by the same guy that did Earthworm Jim. Nerverhood is a 90's PC/PS1 Adventure game made of clay, Skullmonkeys is a platformer made of clay. They're as bizzare as Earthworm Jim and very very creative, holds up very well due to the clay animation.

The water level was just one of the the infamous "rental levels" put in to tease you into renting it again.

Earthworm Jim was my favorite cartoon growing up. I had the 4 VHS tapes they put out and watched them constantly.

Earthworm Jim is like a video game equivalent of an early 90s psychedelic cartoon. Yet another franchise that def couldn't make the 3D transition. Excellent episode!

I always thought of ID and Buttville as Contra levels, specially with that music. I loved every bit of this episode, I have watched it some times now and I still love the 8:04-8:49 part, it's genius!

FUN FACT: In the underwater level of EWJ when you're in the glass bubble thing, you can position the little nozzle on the left side of the orb (it's that little stick on the left side) against specific spots during the sequence that will refill your air timer...so you dont HAVE to rush it as much as you'd think.

Well, at least SNES version win over Sega on Earthworm Jim 2, since there's button to switch the weapons so if you got Bubble Gun, then it's not disaster. This button is not available in Genesis and makes the last level harder

I love how James keeps adding small but original gags even after the years, keeping it fresh

I had no idea until a year or two ago that there is an Earthworm Jim cartoon

Wild to think I’m going on 30 and have been watching avgn since around 2007. I don’t keep up with everything but it’s still cool to see what’s going on every few months. One of the realest KZread series still ongoing.

Jim's Now A Blind Cave Salamander has got to be one of the best level names ever

James is the Kubrick of OG KZreadrs. Still pumping out classics 19 years strong.

Love Earthworm Jim. I recently found an earthworm Jim GAMEBOY game at my local vintage game store and have been playing it and it's brought back so many awesome childhood memories. I'm 37 now and I still have my original model Gameboy from when I was a tiny child...and it still works perfectly. What an unstoppable era that was

I never got to play 3, but 1 and 2 are literally 10/10 games for me. Totally absurd but with super tight, satisfying AND fun mechanics.

to me earthwork jim is the essence of the 90s. i remember playing it on some console at a toy store and i thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I love how 13:55 is pretty much a sequel to his last game idea after he played Attack of the Mutant Penguins on the Jaguar

Man I feel like this should of been an early AVGN episode, but so glad he is handling it now :)

Oh man, James didn't know that if you whip a cow while it's being abducted by the aliens, they'll drop it. I can imagine that would make that level really frustrating to play.

Seeing James now makes me feel so old compared to when I started watching him in 2010..

Great video as always! A quick correction, the music on "What the Heck" level is a rendition from Modest Mussorgsky's "Night on the Bare Mountain". Coincidentally, this work is also featured on Fantasia!
