I'm happy to say that the secret level "Who Turned Out The Lights?" is actually in the Mega Drive/Genesis version. It's accessible from a secret warp in Level 5 (Of which actually is the 5th level of the game if you don't count the Andy Asteroids levels). Can't remember the exact location, but I can promise you that the warp is there. :-)

The warp to "Who Turned Out the Lights" is near the end of the first section of Level 5 after you see Monkey for a Head turning valves releasing those eye ball thingies and as you whip across two spikes onto a platform before the final stretch there's a platform with some red dots that looks like a warp...jump up into it and voila. Secret level found.

That. I distinctly remember to play this part on mega drive and was very confused by the video. I don't even remember it was a secret.
The Earthworm Jim series has my favorite art styles and character designs of all time. All random and goofy. Peak 90s
Intestinal Distress was removed from the SNES version because Sega paid Shiny to include an exclusive stage to their version. The art director Nick Bruty revealed this in an interview long ago, Nintendo did not have issue with third party developers including that kind of stuff in their games.

When you get to the end of the video you will see why the original got taken down :( Sadly these things happen from time to time and its really not worth the possible strike against my channel to fight it (well, not in my eyes anyway) So, here it is the 5th Complete History I ever did posing as the 52nd :P Normal programming will resume within the next week with a brand new Record Unboxing, Kick-Scammers AND HOPEFULLY a brand new Complete History too :) Thank you all for your support, it really does mean the world to me! Earthworm Jim is a show that's an underrated classic. Great? No, but good, memorable, and silly. Worth watching at least once, and some excellent voice actors, too. (And, of course, the theme song.)
Thank you so much for doing such a thorough video game history of Earthworm Jim. I'm working with a channel who's doing a review of the entire TV series, and I wanted to start from the beginning. Unfortunately, none of us had played any of the games, so this was incredibly helpful. It's wonderful to go level by level with someone who loved the first two games so much.

I bought this game for my young kids when it came out, needless to say, I played it 5 hours a day until I got through it! I was good!!!
I remember loving EWJ 3D as a child but I could've just been fanboying.

Golden channel you got here!💖
loved this game as a kid! Also I'm pretty sure that under water level got the concept from the ninja turtles nintendo game where you have to deactivate the bombs while trying not to swim into the rocks. Both were equally hard but so satisfying when you would actually beat them!
23:38 Of course. I also remember the boss fight against Boom Sonic in Sonic 1
I mentioned this before on the original upload, there's a Win95 CD-ROM version of EWJ1 published by Activision that outdoes the Sega CD/Mega CD release, but is one of the most stubborn titles to get working right on anything post-WinME. I know all this because I still own it (jewel case only; I lost the PC box a long time ago). It should also be worth noting that, since I originally commented on all this, I cannot find any info as to a European release, so maybe that was why you had no knowledge of the release. GOG selling only the DOS version in the Can 'O Worms bundle CD doesn't help your cause, either, and I (apocryphally) believe the DOS versions sold better, possibly because the release was closer to the mainstream relevance of the 1st title to the franchise. After all, EWJ2 was likely already out or around the corner when Win95 EWJ1 was released. Win95 was released in August 95, and at the very least, my disc has a copyright of 95, while EWJ2 was in November that year. Sorry I still can't help more than this. I'm not surprised about the strike, it was only a matter of time, I suppose.
@TheBalthassar
6 жыл бұрын
I also had that Win95 CD-ROM version. There had to have been some form of European release of it, because I ended up with it. But yeah, it definitely seems better than any of the versions listed.
The "Who Turned the Lights Off" bonus level isn't exclusive to SNES. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version has that too. Also, from what I've heard, the "Intestinal Distress" level came about when Sega wanted their version to have an exclusive level, so they asked Shiny to make one in exchange for lowering the cartridge costs. Also, "Level 5" is the actual fifth level on the original Mega Drive version and the later versions added stuff which moved Level 5 further into the game.
My nostalgia hits harder listening to the sega version. The must that the sega could do hits me in all the right places.
Well, I've owned Earthworm Jim HD for 10 years, and literally just found out right now about the 4 player co-op. Thanks Slope.

The first two games are terrific fun. Great video! A shame Dan doesn't use the full intro theme any more.
when I was a wee little lad, I had the opportunity to tour virgin game studios in orange county where I lived. It was so amazing that I spent the better part of my adult youth trying to chase the essence of that exact workplace. I made it eventually, however, working in video games sucks and is soul crushing.
Okay the first thing I've learned about this channel is that the Sega version is going to be your favorite lol
There's so many games that hold a special place in our memory. That came along in the perfect time in our lives and in the history of the industry that were a shining showcase of what the medium could be. Then we try and play them today and we quickly learn how deceptive memory can be (Final Fantasy VII, anyone?). Where they just don't up. And then there's the Earthworm Jim games that not only hold up today but who's animation has only been matched a small handful of times.
What a Groovy upload😁👌

Omg I loved this game when I was a kid this brings back great memories. It was very challenging as well
Evil Dead Fistful of Boomstick was actually really fun!
This game used to creep me out when I was a kid.. One day I've played the EWJ 1 on snes and fell asleep. The other day I woke up with my tv turned off and went to school, when I came back and turned the tv on there was the title screen (and loading screen of each stage ) on 6:09 of this video with the weird snes song of the first stage playing. I was creeped out and kinda of scared of the game ever since. On the secret stage "Who Turned Out The Lights?" on snes exclusively, at the end of the stage there was a huge cat eyes on the dark and when you encounter EWJ give a scream and you die if you don't do anything (like run back). This scared so much that I ran from my bedroom immediatly. Good memories!
There was a glitch in that hot air balloon bomb level. When you turned around at the very start and pushed the bomb against the edge of the screen and shot it yourself, a new bomb would then appear but both you and it would be immune to all damage. Made it pretty easy.
Earthworm Jim was always my favourite childhood platform shooting game of the SNES for me, but the MegaDrive versions feels so much better, even though the SNES ports are not bad. both very challenging and funny, but the ending of EWJ2, make me cry just from laughing, the entire game is so weird and wacky, it's a shame no one talks about it.
WOOW...looking back I knew Earthworm Jim was a game above normal for it's time!!...But man I had No idea it was pushed like it was!!.(that grandma commercial was BANANAS!! Lmaooo🤣🤣🤣 imagine being a young kid watching that back in the day!!?.. jeez...def a zany commercial & Game!! & But Great gameplay!!... I'm still amazed at the shit could get way with back then lol!!!..But despite the Craziness of EWJ 1& 2 was waay Light Years Ahead of its Time!!! Still Great fun to play even to this present day!!..(hats OFF to the BOLD CREATOR'S OF THIS DOPE GAME!!🙌🏽💥🙌🏽💥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯
Man this brought back from memories! I use to love the bungee fight with Major mucus! I remember giving up on slug for a butt, she took so many hits! I thought I was doing something wrong!
You missed an opportunity to say 'JIm pulled a rocket from his pocket', instead of a spaceship. I remember renting this game from a local rental place as a teen and me and my cousin laughing for like 10 minutes when I said 'Did he just pull a rocket out of his pocket?!' Running joke to this day...

Internal distress was a genisis excusuve level because sega asked them to make another level due to how much size limitations are left. I think...
Not sure if you were aware of this when you made the video but I think the PC version also had that big brutie level. I definitely remember playing it on the PC version (along with intestinal distress but not the extra SNES part). I remember calling it the Jenga block level due to the way wooden planks looked.

There were a couple incorrect things you stated (ewj1) but you caught my attention at earthworm Jim 2’s sega Saturn vs PlayStation bit, Saturn from my knowledge has background parallax scrolling giving the backgrounds more depth, PlayStations backgrounds are fairly static, but that’s the only difference I can spot (as I’ve never played each port my self)
Actually, the Sega Genesis version of Earthworm Jim DID have the special “dark” section in Level 5. I know because I only had the Sega Genesis and EWJ was one of my favorite games and it was one of those games that I personally made my goal to find all the secrets. The Dark section of Level 5 was my favorite part of Level 5. :)
I always remember the snes version having less frames of animation, or a slower fps. My friend had the gensis (megadrive) version and I had the snes version, and we both felt that the gensis version was superior. There were a few ports like that, like Aladdin.
