I bought my 2002 for $4,400. It came out of Virginia. Zero rust. It was undercoated from the original owners who bought it brand new. So I’m the second owner. 105,000 miles. V6 5speed stick 4x4. I just put a timing belt and water pump in it last week. I’m satisfied with my Xterra.I live in NJ by the way

My daily driver is a 2004 Xterra purchased 2005. One suggestion for Gen one Xterra owners, add an idler arm brace. If you at all will be driving over dirt roads, in general rough roads, be aware the OEM idler arm connection for the Gen One vehicles is known to have issues, thus the need for the brace; in 2005 mine cost $30. It is a fifteen-minute job, remove four bolts, slide in the brace, using those OEM bolts, bolt it back together. Very simple, you may not get your hands dirty, well maybe a little but not much, and you do not need to jack up the vehicle.

Just came onto your video. $400 for a structurally sound Xterra with a usable engine and transmission is a steal. I have a 2000 Xterra SE with a lot of the same minor annoyances like the ABS light (after replacing the sensor) and a cross threaded lug nut that broke off when I changed the tires. I'm looking forward to viewing your Xterra playlist, even after almost 25 years as an Xterra owner, learning about my vehicle!

I had a '95 Pathfinder XE and drove it to 300,000 miles until the transmission lost reverse in 2015. I am self taught maintenance mechanic out of necessity and became an expert on that engine so when I found out that the 1st generation Xterra's (99-04) were the same engine design slightly larger, I tracked me down a 2002 Xterra SE w/120k miles for $4k. Now 7 years later owning it, I've replaced one major component per year such as radiator/starter/alternator as one must do after 120k miles, no modifications, all original trim and features, still my favorite daily driver and for crawiling around mountain trails! Yearly maintenance cost on these Xterra's are listed as #2 lowest and only beat out by the Toyota Corolla!

I have a 2002 Xterra with 237k miles on it. Original owner. My ABS light comes on intermittently and has been doing it for the last few years. I WAS able to verify that the ABS still works when that dash light is on, so I think it's just a sensor issue. As long as the ABS still works, I'm not going to worry about the light on the dash. The X has become our "dog" car. IOW, we haul dirty stuff in the X (like our dog after she's been rolling in the mud.) It's also our trail-head vehicle. We figure the thieves will leave it alone because it looks kind of junky. BTW, the SE is the high end version. The XE is the low end Xterra model. Mine is the XE, like yours, with the manual windows.

Just bought a 2006 Xterra for my next driver. I like to buy older models that you just don’t see many on the road, this is replacing my 2002 Avalanche. If I can anticipate the market demand for my “project vehicles “, I’ve found that when I sell years after I can reclaim a lot of my investment. It looks to me that the Xterras have been in the shadows but are becoming more popular to the off road crew. 4 runners and older Jeeps have been moving beyond the buy in cost I like.

You MUST change the timing belt on these V3.3's every 100k miles , I change the number 6 plug by putting one hand on the plug hole and doing it by feel. It's much smarter to buy a gen II with the 4.0 which has 100 hp more and the same gas mileage. It also has a timing chain .
