Hey Dan, following your first habit, I'd like to tell you a bit about my situation, and maybe you'll have some advice on how I can continue, cos' I have no idea. I'm 22 and I've never made money of my music, to be fair it's because I have never published anything, but I don't know where to begin. I also don't know which possible "career path" to take. I have thought about recently of making music for films, but I don't have any connections. At the moment I am working on a song which I am giving it my 100%, so it can stand as a portfolio of sorts, that I can upload and hopefully reach out to studios or directors. I have thought about student films to begin. At first I was thinking of doing it for free but following your second habit I'll probably charge a bit. I can live of 2 months of savings and I have the option to go back to a normal job like bartending, or use all that free time to work towards my music. I was wondering if there is any way I can start making money now, like even if just for sustaining myself right now. My issue is I don't have a direction, so without a direction I don't have discipline because I wake up and I have no idea of what to work on, or what's the best thing to spend my time on that will give me any reasonable results. I don't wanna write a book so I'll leave my story up to here. From this, what would you do in my situation? Thanks! Ps. I know you have the dark label stuff, but I saw that's more for part time producers, or professionals, and I don't really consider myself on those levels yet. Cheers!

I wouldn't be worried about making money at this point and definitely don't quit your job. Go make and publish some music. I had like 200 records under my belt before I went full time (not saying that is necessary but just to put things in perspective). Any of the options you are thinking about pursuing are fine, just pick one and go do it. Seriously, it's not any more complicated than that. At this stage, you just need to prove to yourself that you are a 'doer' and not just a thinker. Hope that helps.

And btw you can still feel free to reach out if you need help developing your portfolio. That's something we've started doing recently. Happy to chat about it if you'd like.

Interesting video, but I disagree with your definition of "dream". Music, for me is still a dream and even if I made zero dollars off of it, I would still enjoy the heck out if it and would continue making music. I hate this marketing side about art, but I have to acknowledge that it's necessary. Very helpful video tho.

Gotcha. I guess I would call that having a 'passion' for making music. If you are doing something it isn't a dream. It's a reality. Thanks for watching.
