I'm a retired bat Chief. My dad was a Tiller driver. He retired Deputy Chief of operations (btw, he skipped many ranks in the early 80's on the mobile air unit design team) We don't have tillers anymore in Wichita, KS. Good times.

Some of these old buildings harbor some nasty burning fires that you _don't_ always see because they tend to travel up in the air spaces in between the brick exteriors and the old, more solid plaster and wood lath interior walls, and then manage to find an opening with fresh air, take a big gulp, and explode into a huge, sudden, destructive, and deadly flashover that can appear anywhere, on any floor in the building... This is why fire depts such as those in Chicago or NYC often dispatch an "all hands" alarm when these types of fires occur!

Came here to say that! That's not the Flatiron Building is it? To me, the shape of this building shows how expensive land is in The Big Apple using every square foot!

It's the Flat Iron of the ghetto
One of those fires that starts in between the walls or ceiling floor systems. They can smolder for hours before they can explode into an inferno. I consider these the deadliest type of fire because they tend to flare up when everyone is sleeping and snuff people with smoke.
