Darwin is a dear friend and colleague, and he just nails this.. And not to take anything away from him, but take a moment and notice Johnny playing bass, with kick and hats going at the same time. And Tim nailing the rhythm backing and harmonies perfectly. This band is full of such amazing musicianship.

They really are amazing!! That Bass is so good!! I saw Gordon for the first time during his tour for “Summertime Dream” and it struck me then and the many times after what an amazing sound he and the band had! They replicate that really well!! So impressed!!❤️

That was one of the first things I noticed. He kept the beat steady on both the kick drum and the hats.

Darwin: I am 62 and grew up listening to Gordon Lightfoot sing this classic song, my Mom is 85 and also loves Gordon Lightfoot. When I stumbled across you singing this I was instantly transported back to the late 70's/early 80's. When I shared it w/my Mom... your singing brought tears to her eyes. We have compared your easy, mellow style of singing to Glen Yarbrough, who was a wonderful balladeer until he retired. We both think you are incredibly talented and as a guitar player myself, I absolutely love your instrumental riffs in the middle of this song. Please consider recording more ballads like this one... as lead singer for F&F. You are the reason that I explored F&F and became a huge fan forever. Thank YOU!
This is the first time I've heard Darwin sing solo. He is always a part of the back up singers doing harmony. Darwin you have a beautiful voice. You guys are amazing...the Foxes too.

Check out Darwin doing southern cross...I think it is better than the original
As a young Second Lieutenant, I sat in the waiting room at the airport at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, one cold, dark morning in February 1971, and watched a long line of even younger soldiers slowly working their way out the door toward the aircraft waiting to take them to Viet Nam. This song and also "Leavin' On A Jet Plane" both played at one point or another. The expressions on their faces were so sad that It was almost more than I could bear to see. I was on my way to Germany. Lucky me. Damned lucky. 24 months later, I got to come home alive and in one piece. I still wonder how many of those young men I watched that day didn't.

I have to agree with you about back in the days of Vietnam. I went over in 1968 just in time for the Tet offense. I was with the 4th infantry division located in the central highlands. On February 5th my birthday we lost eight guys from my company clearing the NVA out of the city of Kontum . Later in April we got our ass kicked at a place called Chu Moor Mountain. Every time I hear this song it makes me reflect back to Vietnam and the thoughts we all had while serving there and being trapped over there. I would do it all again for the right cause. Last but not least I have come to be a big fan of F&F. and this guy not only sings great but can play the hell out of his guitar. Thank you so much for the music and memories. As I revisit this KZread page and performance, I want to reiterate my appreciation for all of the kind words and comments re: 'Early Mornin' Rain'. As I previously mentioned, a lifetime of Music, mostly in the Southern Rock genre, has led me to the awareness and knowledge that as I've aged, so has my style changed.(in a positive way, and I hope you all agree) These days I'm more of a Wandering ('Wondering') Minstrel. And I'm ok with that and hope you all are too. THANKS VERY MUCH!

This rendition is as faithful to the spirit of the song as any I've heard. Nice job on the vocal, Darwin, and the lead was simply outstanding. Actually the drummer playing bass.
MAN WHAT A VOICE. BEAUTIFUL
NEVER underestimate an old, bearded guy playing Lightfoot tunes on a graphite guitar. This is the best cover I've ever heard! There are even echoes of Red Shea's original leads in there and a really tasty updated break!

Yes, us old Grays have to stick together. And I love the Rainsong for performing. Full, glassy tone, and pretty much indestructible. Thanks!
I like this rendition the best of any other rendition of this song. Darwin, Johnny and Tim did a marvelous job of a great classic song.
Just a perfect rendition - nothing more to add - take a bow :)
I cant help myself this tune is played every morning just to set up for a wonderful day Thanks people
OK, I was a bit saddened to hear that this was only a fossil clip UNTIL I heard the darn thing. WOW, another incredible rendition done to perfection! I have always enjoyed hearing Peter, Paul, and Mary do this song. Well fellas, you just knocked them off that podium. Well Done!!

And being a Peter Paul and Mary fan, I certainly agree. More from Darwin please!!
The accumulated talent in this group is unmatched. From the instrumental, to the vocals, and the production of the recordings. Never seen anything like it. Thank you Lord for these guys keeping music alive. And the Foxes vocal blends are unmatched. 3 superstars!
I’ve heard many versions of this classic Lightfoot tune over the years and this is by far the best. You guys nailed the tempo and key, and Darwin’s vocals perfectly express the emotional range of lows and highs the lyrics in this song are trying to convey. Once again F & F achieves near perfection in their cover of a great tune. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Love seeing johnny "help me help me" pike playing bass and drums at the same time - always keeping the beat and rythym going!
Never get tired of seeing you guys regardless of what incarnation of the band performs.
Well done gentlemen. Right up there with Peter Paul & Mary and Gordon himself
I never comment on covers, but this was great...really great
Absolutely sublime. They are always on rhythm, tight as a stretched rubber band. Their cover brings an extra bounce to a Lightfoot classic. Just as good, or maybe better, than the original. Perfect guitar work as always, and they bring a special touch to a song that's been covered God knows how many times. And you deserve a bigger audience, for crying out loud! I live near the Wolftrap Park for the Performing Arts. They should book you - a perfect venue. We need to get past this pandemic, unfortunately.
When I listen to this I feel I’m walking down a quiet road, misty rain falling, reflecting on how nice this song sounds.
Everyone in this band could be a front man... a lot of talent
I never cease to be amazed. Even missing the foxes harmonies you guys still nailed it.
Beautiful.
Great cover by the best! Never a disappointment! Next, how about “Kentucky Rain”?
I listen to this song two or three times a week, just love it!!!
I liked this version of early morning rain: Lightfoot is harder to cover than you think and this captured all the pathos of a terrific song, well done from Canada.
I listen to this track at least once a week (alternating with Don’t Worry Baby). Darwin just kills it! Great voice and amazing guitar chops. Please don’t stop.
i’ve turned to youtube rather than news. and now sports too. although i’ve listened to new and very old music, i come back to these guys every night. every night. they’re talented, humble and i am saving my airline miles to fly wherever they next perform. thank you!!

Once again, wonderful voices, harmonies, and performance !! And this is "only" with half the band !! What a fantastic band, they are the best there is.
Outstanding, Guys! I also graduated in 1974. Damn, that makes me as old as a fossil! Love the Beagle!
