Early Detection Techniques in Breast Cancer - with Dr Tasha

Early detection of breast cancer is crucial for improving prognosis and survival rates, making awareness of the available techniques essential. Mammography, a widely recognised screening tool, plays a pivotal role in identifying tumors that are too small to be felt, often before symptoms arise.
Advances in imaging technology have led to the development of digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography), which provides clearer, more detailed images, reducing false positives and improving detection accuracy. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are valuable supplementary tools, especially for women with dense breast tissue or those at high risk. Emerging methods like molecular breast imaging (MBI) and contrast-enhanced mammography offer promising enhancements in detecting abnormalities.
Additionally, genetic testing and the identification of biomarkers are becoming increasingly important, allowing for personalised screening strategies based on individual risk factors. By leveraging these early detection techniques, healthcare providers can diagnose breast cancer at its earliest stages, significantly enhancing treatment outcomes and saving lives.

Dr. Tasha, I am 61 now and has always gotten the 3D mammograms done. Last year of 2023 is the first time that a lump was found in my breast. It was stage two grade 3. I feel that the technician somehow should have caught it Within those two year periods of time. I’m just wondering what happened or why it wasn’t caught a year earlier. Thank you.🎀🎀
