Given how last season went, some of these top contenders are definitely gonna be flops. If I had to guess I'd say The Holdovers and Saltburn and Dune

Also. Margaret Avery wrote a beyond tacky For Your Consideration ad in Variety in the style of Celie (the book's main character and narrator) that further ensured that the Academy wasn't going to touch this film.

Regarding The Color Purple 1985 the reason the film did not win any Oscars is because the NAACP called for a boycott of the film based on its treatment of its male characters and the negative stereotypes they reinforced. The film consequently became a political hot potato that the Academy wasn't going to touch.
Tar actually did make the best picture line up
Denis Villeneuve had said he wants to do 3 films and adapt the 2nd book for the 3rd film.

The Color Purple,the non musical was absolutely great and the movie that beats it back in 1985 was Out of Africa and one movie is unforgettable and the other one is forgettable. I think that The Color Purple the movie musical is going to be a big awards contender I hope fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞. The movie that Martin Scorsese directed that has a pretty good female character was Casino with Sharon Stone as Ginger I think that Martin Scorsese doesn't know how to write a good female character in my opinion
Also test screening really dont maytet
Academy voters are not going give the color purple no awards just nominations that about it.
