My current top 10 is- 1- Babylon Promising test screening reactions, great cast and fantastic director. 2- Killers Of The Flower Moon I think Martin Scorsese can’t make a bad film and the cast ensemble is absolutely brilliant and also the production team! 3- The Fabelmans Never doubt Steven Spielberg. 4- The Killer I think Netflix will prioritize this film and David Fincher is the best at directing the thriller genre so I’m sure this film will be fantastic. 5- Everything Everywhere All At Once An absolute masterpiece, and a film this critically acclaimed Will definitely be pushed my critics. Audiences are loving it as well! 6- Decision To Leave I think this will be the international feature front runner and can have a similar trajectory to Drive My Car. 7- Empire Of Light Deakins + Colman + Sam Mendes that’s all I’m gonna say. 8- Thirteen Lives The early screening reactions are very promising. 9- Avatar 2 I think the blockbuster spot in the best picture lineup is between the new Avatar and The Batman. And with a perfect release date I think Avatar 2 takes the edge for now for that blockbuster spot. 10- Women Talking A fantastic ensemble with a powerful topic! My most anticipated of the year and I think it’ll be a brilliant movie.

Brendan’s got three movies coming this year. He’s the villain in Batgirl, he’ll be in Killers of the Flower Moon, and he’s the lead in an Aranofsky movie. The comeback story is too good. I’m already putting him as my number one. Also, The Woman King I think could easily be a huge thing, and Viola Davis is for sure a shoe-in for a nomination, but the issue seems to be that the story isn’t as true as they’re saying it is. Apparently it’s being framed as this African tribe fighting against the slave trade, even though they actually sold rival tribes to the English as slaves. I could see the Academy not wanting to touch that. Also also, I doubt The Things They Carried is coming out this year, but if it is, that could be a big contender.

Having seen the theatre productions of both The Son (in 2019) and Allelujah (in 2018) in London, I admit I never thought, oh I can see them as films. Mind you, I hadn’t considered The Father and look how great that was! The Son is the more likely I agree. It’s certainly an powerful / emotional piece like The Father was, although the other could get some BAFTA buzz, as the playwright Alan Bennett is a National treasure here and it was both funny and tinged with moments of sadness too.

The Father campaign was really bad and still won some, with a better campaign The Son will be absolutely a frontrunner - I dont keep faith on bones n all, BUT its eyeing a venice premiere, so i do believe there will be a oscar campaign for this movie and it will maybe come strong - Keep an eye on international films, there will definetly be at least one in the lineup - Never underestimate Iniarratu LOL - No Andrew Garfield movies this year we failed as society

On Killers of the Flower Moon, Eric Roth mentioned that Leo and Plemons are co-leads in an interview. I think they’ll be campaigned as such but considering Plemons plays the protagonist of the story I think if one goes supporting it’ll be Leo who’s playing a more anti-hero role. Bardo seems like it’ll be Inarittu’s take on a 8 1/2 or All That Jazz type film. I think if it lands with Netflix or Searchlight or another good distributor it has a very good shot to be a major contender. The thing that gives me pause though is the reports of Inarittu’s extremely unsafe working conditions while filming under COVID. Apparently a lot of crew members got it and some had died due to it. Will have to see if that becomes a major story that could derail it’s campaign.

About killers of the flower moon, after reading the book, the character Jesse Plemmons is portraying only shows up in the second half of the book cause he is the FBI Agent that will uncover the crimes in the film, BUT he is the central part of the story so I would assume Jesse Plemmons will be considered the Leading Actor, and I can see Robert and Leo as supporting actors honestly, unless they film everything from Leo's character perspective, whcih I don't think is happening. Canterburry Glass and Bardo will defintely be in the cerimony. If not in the BP category, they will certainly have other nominations, maybe directing for inarritu, and cinematography for Lubezki is 100% happening cause we all know how good that guy is. It's going to be good to see Inarritu and Chivo in the Oscars again.
