Early 1996 Tahoe Transmission Issues & Fix Bulletin 00-07-30-026

if you're having automatic transmission problems with the 4L 60-E or the 4L80-E automatic transmission problems check to see if the wiring has been corrected.
if you have a vcm with the service number 16244210 or if you have the jumper wire installed with a yellow tag you do not need to do this modification. this is usually for bcms that were produced before February of 1996.
to correct the wiring you can either get a couple of wires from a wiring harness that connects to the vcm from a salvage yard or you can purchase the kit from GM part number 12167310.
if you are unsure of what you are doing or don't have the confidence take it to the dealer or to a shop that knows how to do this. this is a simple modification that you can do yourself if you have either the part number or a couple pieces of wire from an old wiring harness that fits into the vcm. you have to relocate one wire from one connector and install it into another connector. you have to install a jumper wire from one connector to another connector. it is simple as that. there are five connectors that go into the vcm the small round or oblong type connector does not need any modification. three of four rectangle plugs or wiring connectors are each color coded and it involves a simple modification at just about anybody can do. it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to do this even if you are slow like me with just a couple of small screwdrivers, electrical cutters, a piece of heat shrink, a butt connector or soldering the two wires together and some electrical tape and or wiring loom.
the service bulletin number is 00-07-30-026 from GM published December 21, 2000 and explains the problem of the automatic transmission from having improper grounding and what models are affected.

What about for a manual transmission? I've been trying to figure out some ground problems and codes in my 96 C1500, I would really appreciate the help.

This tsb only applies to the automatics. You might get a wiring diagram and start checking the grounds. That's how I would attack it. Sorry I can't help further

Got my transmission rebuild about a year ago and yesterday i got p0573. My scanner tells me its shift solenoid A. Was doing some research and came across your video. I guess my question is, should i have a jumper cable from plug to plug if i have the updated service no? Thanks a lot.🫡💯

I'm not one to give technical advice since I'm a DIYer and not a professional mechanic. Even though you have a newer tranny my interpretation is it was a factory defect in the design because of a grounding issue in the wiring harness. In this service bulletin it corrects the problem even if you have a newer tranny. If the serial number on the VCM in the early 1996 models and it has not been corrected then the grounding problem still exists. You can call the GM dealership to see if it has been corrected or if there is a sticker to see if an independent shop has done it. If it was me I would do it just so that I could eliminate and further tranny problems if I had a good working tranny. But that's me. That's just my .02 cents. You may never have a problem with the grounding but if GM issued a recall on it I would just do it. It's easy heck I was able to do it with no problem.

@minimalisticmime5459 Yes, it was shifting hard going into second gear, and it wouldn't shift to second at times. I had to take my foot off the gas, and then it would shift. I saw a video that was talking about ground wires being an issue, and so I did the so-called big three upgrade that seems to have solved the problem.
