I wear an ear guard, mouth guard, groin cup, knee pads and tape my fingers. A training partner had a detached retina from accidentally being poked in the eyes with who he was rolling with. Now I am thinking about wearing sport goggles, when I found about this. It almost seems like I am going to war, just when it is training.

@@TheSantos173 No, if you get the fluid out it wont calcify over and become a hard lump that makes cauliflower ear. Your options to avoid it are wear the headgear or make sure you dont fight through bad situations by pulling your head free. Most cauliflower is from grinding the head free from guillotines or other times your opponent is wrapped around your head.

You'll need to have it aspirated (i.e., fluid sucked out with a tiny needle), then immediately put it under constant, substantial comoression in order to stop the fluid from coming back. They might either sew a temporary button on your ear to maintain compression or give you a formed ear clamp. Knowing the condition might help you get treatment. I wear ear guards too, but not for training but for sensitive ears, as noise hurts, I often use the hard shell ear 2 piece Matman Ear Guard. I sleep with on with foam pads and earplugs, when the weather is stormy. As I hate thunderstorms and they spook me something terrible along with the lightning which I can hear it’s presence, I tend to freak out if I am not wearing my ear guards with foam and earplugs to block the sound out. I have several, as I sleep with em on and I wear nearly 24 hrs & & days a week. That’s the price I pay for having super sensitive hearing.

@@TheSantos173 Thank you for asking. I'm now 8 months in, and I wear the Matman if I feel things are getting rough, like maybe some drill that has impact potential to that area. For the most part, I don't wear them and thank God am ok so far. I do wear them if I feel soreness, and I also ice my ears after class as precaution, and also massage and pull my ears to warm them up beforehand via Fedor, who I have seen do and recommend this, and he has pristine ears after all his wars amazingly! I now have two stripes on my white belt and may get the 3rd soon. I am enjoying the journey very much and may compete soon for the first time. Good luck! ps - I have found that if you sew the head and back strap of the Matman, it will never come loose. Just put some stitches in those areas when you get it to fit ok. The chinstrap of course, you cannot sew, just use the velcro and it will be ok.

I literally just got back to training last Saturday from a week off cause my right ear got really inflamed. I don't care if I have a permanent cauliflower ear cause my wife kind of likes it but man did it hurt. I was a little shocked that my left ear started hurting a few weeks before my right but it was my right ear that started hurting and got inflamed almost immediately. So now I have one cauliflower ear and wear gear so I don't have to go through that again. I'm also going to invest in a mouthpiece since I eat elbows kicks and knees to the chin and get a busted lip all the time

I had my ears "pinned" early on in my jiu jitsu training. My ears were starting to harden even after draining. The next time it happened really bad, i went to the doctor and he drained both of my ears and he stitched through each ear and through splints he made to keep the form of the ear. I didn't go under, just a local. Many years later, I never have any problems with my ears now, but the cauliflower that I had before the operation is still there.

@@wmhs02dm ''repaired'' they don't need fixing... i love my stretched ears and probably will always keep them. If you wash your face and ears every day they will not smell. so i don't know what kind of goblin you have encountered that had smelly ears , but i never experienced that.

Yeshua Hamashiach is God in the flesh, the Son of God, the Word of God, and he died so that you may be presented blameless in the sight of the Father. And so you may inherit his kingdom. The LORD Yeshua Hamashiach is the only way to the Father and his kingdom. Repent of your sins accept him into your life as your LORD and Savior before it's too late, every day is not guaranteed. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me. May God bless you all.

I got caulis from light sparing. Ignored that for a week and then got to a doctor, as they got worse. They basically cut my ear open (at least that's what it feels like). The night I couldn't sleep from the pain. Next day they changed the gauze and I literally gagged myself with my hand and screamed. I'm buying headgear immediatelly, I'm not gonna allow this to happen again...

Some instructors don't provide or make you use headgear which I think is very silly and a liability issue, especially for the beginners that wont know they will develop it. This issue prevents me from doing judo cause I cant afford to make my ears mashed up at all or even touched.
