    @@ScottLeVocalCoach You are very welcome, Scott. If the spirit moves you, please cue up Angelina's informal at-home performance of the Etta James classic, "I'd Rather Go Blind." kzread.info/dash/bejne/on9sz6-RgcWZj6w.html But, buckle up if you do 'cause Angelina really bears down with some bluesy, raspy vocal fry, which is fits the material to a tee. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight info how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and gives them some instructions. There are English subtitles as the spoken language is Norwegian: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hXWfvKZ6iK2nZKg.html

    It's the song, "Screaming" Jay Hawkins got his nick name from, and it's worth noting that her performance is closer to the original than all well known covers. Here is a performance from later in his career, which contains most of the elements she based her arrangement on: m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaaC0qpvmdzVm6w.html

    Thank you for continuing your discovery of this very remarkable young singer. Angelina is well worth every moment you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZread, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she con convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Yes,she was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand (g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

    Angelina was sensational and this video, wow, is it fair to say it can be used to help seasoned professional artists to improve their musical delivery in so many different ways? She performed this masterpiece (?) when she was 9 years old ! And, your comments and analysis were "thrilling" to say the least. Your editing was superb and I must say, after watching many, many reactors play this video and critique it in their own way, your presentation ranks right up there with one of the best I have ever heard and enjoyed! Wonderful and thank you so much. You didn't make note of it but I adore the very end of the video. After her last note, Angelina lifts her right arm up and rests it on a ledge and the look on her face is telling us, "Was that okay or, could I do it a little better?" After viewing this I believe I just watched a consummate performing artist do her thing at the highest level possible for her.

    Yeah I mean human potential isn't really to be realized anywhere near fully, ever, in nearly any way. But it could help explain this I suppose. 9 year olds don't make the best version of any song I ever knew of, for good reason, so something outrageous clearly happened here. Definitely what she was thinking though.

Have seen some reactions lately (Yusuftube) comes to mind who are cranking out a half dozen a day of Angelina reactions while offering no substance to the reaction...simply for likes on their channel, personally will not watch them as this is what a genuine reaction should be right here, regardless whether a vocal coach (Scott clearly is) or not, have something to offer besides a 6-7 minute video we can watch anytime. Great breakdown and analysis Scott. Angelina is one of a kind. I hope you continue down Angelina's Rabbit Hole. It will surprise and delight you at every turn. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 16 years old... That is unfathomable!... Oh Lord... what is coming the world is not prepared for but we as fans have been on the edge of our seats and will remain there as we wait. No hurry. We want Angelina to do it her way when she is ready. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. We know Angelina will continue to amaze! We will be here to experience and cherish it for as long as we live.... and I am praying for many more years for myself to enjoy it till the end of my days... I hope to go out of this world listening to the most beautiful voice ever created for man just as Angelina came into it to fulfill her purpose, what she was put on earth to do, sing for the whole World... and Me! To me Angelina is always singing to me transporting me to that beautiful place she inhabits when she sings and to experience it with her. She has the ability to touch hearts and souls and change lives. She has the ability to change lives on a personal level and the power to change lives on a global scale. To me no one compares. You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

    Wow, great reaction. It appears that you really know your stuff. I particularly like your comment “…it was effortless and instinctual.” Many have commented about Angelina’s “effortless” delivery of so many of her songs, but few have noticed natural “instincts” that set her apart. Angelina mentions that she “goes to a special place” when she immerses herself in a performance, and that can often be seen when she tilts her head back and closes her eyes. This is certainly not learned, but *instinctual* and can be seen when she was filmed singing at only one-and-a-half years old! I look forward to seeing more Angelina Jordan reactions from you! 👍😉 🖤👣

    I know you’re new to Angelina. Even though you were impressed by the songs you’ve heard, you can’t know yet how good she is across multiple genres. Your analysis tends to be technical, and there is a lot to unpack there in what she can do. But that technical talent blends with her delivery and interpretation of lyrics to make Angelina easily the best singer I’ve ever heard. Her musicality is evident in her arrangements, her authenticity for genre and style is spot on, and her interpretation and phrasing makes her unique: Angelina is singing to you, and that connection is immediate. She can be mesmerizing as in Bohemian Rhapsody, or she can stun you with technique and power and attitude, even at 9 years old. Yes, Billie Holiday was one of her muses since early childhood. Try her a cappella cover of Billie’s I’m a Fool to Want You. It was part of her audition at 7 for Norways Got Talent. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIB9xbOFZcqyn7w.html It’s extraordinary-easily the best performance you could ever hear from a young child. And since you mentioned James Brown, watch how Angelina can completely inhabit another genre, 1960’s soul, and just blow you away with power, range, phrasing, and attitude on It’s a Man’s World. kzread.info/dash/bejne/enmhmdaAos2ve84.html Watch Angelina at any age, any song, any genre. You’ve only just begun.

If you want to see a Masterclass on vocal techniques & control, you have to see her rendition of the jazz standard, My Funny Valentine. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4h7rsSsd6eneZM.html She literally empties her vocal toolbox on that one & it's my current favorite of hers. If you want to hear her power belting, I recommend her latest cover of Whitney Houston's, I Have Nothing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/m4xkyZtymrGYZrg.html Or if you want to see her genius re-arranging skills, where she totally transforms a classic song, like she did with Bohemian Rhapsody, then you need to hear her cover of Elvis' Suspicious Minds. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIiWrcqkk8i4YJM.html Whichever one you choose, you will be stunned by her vocal artistry.

    WOW Scott! .Seen this 100s of times. Probably the best analysis of her technique to date. Not sure what is more amazing, her instinctive easy use of 100s of techniques on the spot with the vocals to do it right or the fact that she does her own arrangements. At only 9 years 2 months. This is a Musical Masterpiece. Not trying to compare, just curious, but as you move along I would love to know if and why you think her covers are always better than the original. Especially her cover of Adele's Someone Like You, All I Ask and Easy on Me, Rhianna's Stay cover. Amy Winehouse' Back to Black, Lana Del Rey's Born to Die and many many more, My unprofessional theory is below. Nobody can emit the emotion and soul of a song like Angelina. I think she reads the lyrics first before listening to the song itself. In this way she can understand the feeling and emotion the artist wants to convey. Then she arranges it, similar to the original, to be able to dramatically convey the feeling and emotion to us. She takes iconic songs and makes them Angelina songs. Her vocals, tones and smokiness do the rest. She is already The Greatest of All Time! Just amazing!!

  • @ScottLeVocalCoach

    @ScottLeVocalCoach

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for Albert :D I love your list of theories and I agree with all of them! For singers, the way they prepare their song has to very intentional and deliberate. Word for word. And to make conscious choices about which voice quality or vocal technique they want to add in. I think the original artists (that you mentioned) are incredible singers and performers in their own right, and they give Angelina a great foundation for her to then bring her own vibe and sound into the same song. I believe AJ's music hits the sweet spot for many of us and that's why we adore her and her music.

    I don't know what you do for a living, but you are an extraordinary teacher. We all know how gobsmackingly good Angelina is as a singer. This takes no talent to recognize, as evidenced by my own ability to recognize it. You are a great storyteller as well, though. You have a calm, comforting voice and ability to sit with the listener through the reaction as well as talk to them about it. What you choose to say is not overly obvious nor technical mumbojumbo. I could easily see you narrating nature documentaries or doing the kind of voice-over work we see from Morgan Freeman. In fact, I'd love to be watching something in the future and suddenly realize, hey, thats Scott Le narrating! Its not just your voice though. It is what you say and how you say it as well. Total package. Ok, enough about you. What you did here was great! I'm hoping in future analyses, you continue to share your good ear with us. It seems that one of the things that sets Angelina apart is her attention to the little details. Almost imperceptible things, but yet noticeable nuances that turn good into great. That transform super into sublime. She seems to have the ear for them and the instinct for where they belong. Somehow. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Good to see you back and look forward to your next one.

    💗💗💗 you will have to pause a lot :) - go! - lol, we're at the end of your reaction and I just read your video description... "pocket rocket", never heard that one and it made me laugh out loud - also your reaction, it is profound and seriously engaged, yet entertaining - I'm not sure if it's necessary to add in those additional mimic cuts that were not there in the moment of first listen, as you real time mimics already speak for themselves, but they were funny as well. I understand pausing is necessary for comments and to avoid copyright strikes (not with all material published on her two official channels as far as I know, but AGT etc...), , but I'd try to maintain the flow of the song some more, maybe just pausing and commenting real time instead of cutting in comments you filmed later...you might still add something in your final comment which you may well give after a break and some consideration... I mean it's still a great reaction and analysis, but it might be even better if you managed to maintain the integrity of the experience of the performance - don't know if you're able to get what I mean, English isn't my first language, to me it feels somehow more interrupted than necessary... But I subbed to your channel right after Bohemian Rhapsody and enjoyed both reaction and am looking forward to more... "Yellow Brick Road", again from AGT would be awesome, or you might try either some really new or really old recordings (in terms of a child...) "My Funny Valentine" (2022) might leave you speechless, or "Bang Bang" from Norske Talenter (age 7) to witness the unbelievable... - telling other Angels about your video won't be necessary, they'll soon all be here, but I call out poolhallshark: where are you my friend!? - And also Ron, hey mate! Come say hello :) And all the other Angels, sing along! - Peace and love from Bavaria 💗💗💗
