    Don't react to the Eagles There has been a spate of KZread strikes given to reactors to the Eagles. Several sites I watch have been taken down permanently for reacting to "Hotel California" their copyright lawyers are the most brutal on the platform.😮 Be careful or you will receive a strike.

    >>What should we react to next from the Eagles?>>> More than likely, a takedown order and copyright strike from KZread. :( The Eagles reps are legends for enforcement of their copyrights.

    It's fame. Fame and excess. The "Hotel California". You sought fame and now you're trapped in it and with all that comes with it. It's a cautionary tale. Once you're famous, once you're in the "Hotel California" you can never go back to who you were before.

    I always loved this lineup of the Eagles with Don Felder and Joe Walsh on dueling guitars. It was never the same after Felder was forced out.

    Wait, you're going to re-write history and say that he was forced out? He thought that he had contributed more than he had and that he should be given more credit and therefore more pay, it was never about forcing anybody out, it was a battle of ego's and his own resentment that got him out. Joe is on record saying that he wishes that it had never happened but it did. There was a huge fight that happened live and then back stage on their final concert were a guitar was thrown at Don Henley. Would you accept that type of behaviour from any adult that you've been working with for years? Their's footage of it still on the web floating around were their verbal fighting could be clearly heard and also seen as their is actual footage of this fight.

    The way I heard it, this song was written by Don Henley, Glen Frey and Don Felder. Hotel California was meant to be a metaphor for the decadence and trappings of California itself. Henley, from Texas, Frey from Detroit and Felder from Florida all had a unique perspective of L.A. at the time.

    The song is a metaphor for the attraction of California as a state back in the 70's. It's where the party was back then. Everyone wanted to be there. That's straight from Joe Walsh interviews. It really makes sense with all the crazy stuff going on back then in California.

    Talk about exquisite chemistry!!! This is it! I have always wondered who did such a great job at capturing this amazing performance on video. It seems very sophisticated for 1977. The quality is fantastic. I would love to know where it came from. In any event, I am certainly happy for its existence and, regardless of where it came from, I am glad it exists!🌺✌️

    “You can checkout anytime you like but you can never leave” It could be a reference being hooked on drugs. Once you’re IN its really hard to get out. Those rock bands in the 70’s are known to be “high” performing live in concert.

  • @CheshireCatFun

    @CheshireCatFun

    11 ай бұрын

    There's that, but the more obvious reference is that "checking out" was a classic euphemism for dying. When it comes to the hotel, you can "check out anytime you like" (die), but you "can never leave" (soul trapped there for eternity). Think along the lines of the Overlook from "The Shining".

    Being a musician, songwriter and vocialist myself I've always been into a lot of different bands growing up and the Eagles are one of them. I've seen a few different interviews on Don Henley who is the drummer and lead vocalist for most of their songs. Him and Glen Frey wrote the lyrics for this song and Don Felder wrote the music. At first when Don Henley was asked about the meaning of the song he would always say that he had no idea what it meant and that everyone had their own interpretation of it. And then another time he finally relented and said that it was about the dark underbelly of the American Dream. It's about excess, it's about narcissism, it's about the music business, it's about a lot of different things. It can have a million interpretations. Nice reactions from both of you.

Being trapped inside that world of addiction and other things, such as prostitution, that lure young musicians and actors to it. Once a lot of them are inside that ring, they can never leave.

    To me, the hotel is a representation of the whole State. Like coming into California, which has its own scene, its own style, its own way of life. Things that were "normal" in California weren't so normal in other parts of the country. I was in my late 20's when this song came out, and had been through the counter-culture, hippie, drug scene years before. That was all the cool new thing at the time, but in 1977 some of the downsides of that lifestyle were getting more attention. So the "could be Heaven or Hell" part, to me, was right on the button. I think California could be either. A lot of young people were drawn there, and some didn't come back so happy. Some loved it, and stayed. But the "check out any time you want, but you can never leave" isn't literal, to me. I spent some time there, and left. But some of the lifestyle sticks with a person, maybe. For some it's more, some less. So you might check out, but parts of you could still be connected. You might have changed in some ways. So you might never completely leave. In any case, as many have said, the interpretations of the song are as varied and as many as the people who have listened to it! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the reaction!

    Don Henley once said that it was about the excesses of fame and addiction that was happening at the time in LA and rehab. “They stabbed it with their steely knives but they can’t kill the beast”, the beast is addiction. “Captain, please bring me my wine. We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969”, in the 50’s and 60’s in rehab they would give them 1 glass of wine a day to help with withdrawal symptoms.

    Personally, I think this is more about the trap of fame that many musicians were suddenly finding during this time. Many didn't react to the sudden fame well and some wanted to go back to their lives they had before but the industry just didn't allow that to happen. They had to produce more for both their fans and to satisfy the demands of their label.
