    Heard this song the other day at my resort in Las Vegas. I've known it for years, but I rediscovered it while laying at the pool. So many means this song could have; meeting someone special on your vacation, someone soon to pass from a terminal illness, someone moving far away for a career. Ugh, this song is wonderful and has a hidden sadness to it!!

  • @elias7819

    @elias7819

    Жыл бұрын

    Definitely a hidden sadness masked by the upbeat melody and rhythm…EagleEye himself explained the song meaning in an interview, saying “it’s a warning against having TOO much fun and the price that comes with it afterwards” which blew my mind honestly cuz I interpreted the lyrics as just the opposite 😮 on the surface it sounds like a YOLO anthem of the 90s…eat, drink & be merry by candlelight, etc. for tomorrow we may die. Does tonight represent choices we make now and tomorrow/the break of dawn the consequences thereof? Is he saying save as opposed to SPEND to show we need to re-evaluate our natural inclinations towards living in the moment too much? This song is so simple but deep at the same time and could be the subject of a damn dissertation 🤓

    I was born in 1995, so my earliest memories were 1999. I remember going to my Uncle’s new house with my parents. They had just closed on it, and didn’t even have power on. My parents brought them like 10 candles to set around the house. They also brought a portable boom box. They tuned up the local rock station, and this was playing. My cousin had just been born. About six months later, my uncle went to prison. Didn’t see him again until I was fifteen.

    Bananwoski Junior I think it's simply how the world goes. If you were raised on 50s music, you'd think 50s is the best. If you watched mostly 2000 cartoons, 2010+ would be horrible. Everything changes to get new fans, considering we watch/listen to less over the years as things change. If everything was constant, nothing would be fun.

    youdoitcausewesayso THE ANSWER TO IT ALL ENJOY. well I suppose i'm an enigma. I grew up in the 90's was born in the 80's with sisters who listen to the 80's my father was a teenager in the 60's he listen to the 60's and I listen to the 70's mostly but and its a big but I listen to all these genres all the way back to the early bluegrass of the 30's 40's and 50's. but I don't listen to todays or the late 90's till todays very much. I feel they have lost touch with what music is about. music was meant to tell stories and give us a feeling. today we all know what its about mostly a whole lots of nothing. but it seems as though country is trying to go back to its roots a little. but music is my thing it has made a strong impact on my life and if anyone knows anything about music you know music "has and can" change the world. its all about the artist and their ability to tell a morally correct story and stop the foolishness. as long as their is foolishness in the music their will be mass amounts of foolishness in the world. a common illusion is that people think they listen to a type of music and it don't change them "it's just what they like". but I say give a country girl who dresses country, lives country different music maybe Goth that she may like and she will begin to change in time maybe even dress goth. why is that? she will start to think goth and it works with all music why? she will change slowly and slightly because the music she listens to makes it ok. that constant listening and learning of a type of music makes it normal. seeing and liking "celebrity" singers she will want to be like them, talk like them, dress like them. so I say again as long as the music stays foolish so will the population. the young ones are the easiest to change because they are trying to find themselves. older people listen to music in a totally different way. they use music to go back to remember and to relive. they want music that relaxes them makes them feel good because the pressures of life are always there until that special song comes on and it all just fades back to when times were better life was better things were fun. change the music change the world. you have to start with the young so that they don't grow up with these ideas that womanizing, doping, drinking, sex, violence, and being materialistic is ok. look at the majority of these kids and you know what im talking about. you know im telling the truth. most people never realize the impact music has but its a huge one. change the music change the world. thanks friends for the read and as always this is just an opinion like all opinions its going to stink to someone. I wish you all great music and good times.

    I heard this a lot on the radio when I was around preschool age when it just came out. I didn't know any English back then (my third language), but I imitated what the English sounded like without understanding it and sang along. I only recently, 25+ years later, stumbled upon this song and immediately went OMG I REMEMBER THIS! 💡🎵 (And this time around I can actually understand what it is about ☺)

    I really don't like any of Eagle Eye Cherry's other stuff, but my parents do and when this song comes on during a night-time road trip it's amazing. This is a night-time road trip song, along with Le Vent Nous Portera by Noir Desire. That is THE night-time road trip song. I feel like I said night-time road trip to much. Oh well.

    I was born in 99 and my parents always used to listen to this kind of music so I have lots of memories with this stuff. Looking back it must have been a great time. People socialised without burying their face in a phone constantly, parents weren't so protective of their kids, the world was open to experience. I'm jealous.

    I feel as though the 90's themselves were singing these lyrics to our generation on New Year's Eve, 1999... 'Save tonight, and fight the break of dawn', because the dawn would bring in the 2000's, and the end of the 90's forever. :') Tomorrow came, and took them away...
