E55 AMG supercharger pulley swap, the easy way!

This is the best and easiest way to properly swap a supercharger pulley on a Mercedes Benz E55 AMG. For proper torque spec the torque wrench should be at a 90 degree angle to the wrench, to be clear.

    If you apply 40 lb ft to the end of a wrench haven't you multiplied to torque at the bolt?

    Looking at the multiplied leverage, would be around double the torque applied to the bolt! Ha!

    Your losing torque with that setup, so your likely more at 34-36lbs.

    with a longer arm and the same force, you have more torque. it is almost twice the length, so it will be around 70-75lbs

    If you check, the blower is American made and i believe the pulley/clutch assembly bolt is SAE 15/16th". Also, replacing assembly could be difficult but can be aided by using graphite dry powder (lock lubricant) applied to the bearing seat or inner bearing race.

  • @EMFAudio

    ALL of the information I've found never mentions a metric size even, which shocked me. There is 0.2mm difference in 15/16" and 24mm so it is safe to do. However, because of bolt and nut availability, I figured it would be safer to use SAE for this particular task. Perhaps if I found German documentation I could have found it was 24mm, I had to figure that out on my own to mention it!

    The torque wrench should have been held at a 90 degree angle to the combo wrench so that the torque setting would have been accurate. Held straight the torque applied is way off.

    No need for such extension to torque the nut, a direct torque wrench works fine. Please stay in metric units. Anyone willing to work on that car should get a metric tools set.

    The torque wrench doesn't work when it won't fit between the bolt and fan shroud. I didn't do it because it looked fun. Most people who routinely work on cars have SAE and metric, not everybody does and use what they have.

    Great video!!Thank you for that!!! I tried the 24mm spanner and is slightly loose so I think you better use the 15/16 spanner and 15/16 socket for the wrench as the 24 mm is slightly bigger. • @EMFAudio

    @EMFAudio

    5 жыл бұрын

    It was the factory pulley, I'm not sure what size it is. You can use the same belt length, if you did a 77mm pulley you'd need a shorter one I think. I say the same belt length because I have a belt wrap kit also which needs a longer belt, but I didn't change the belt length as a result of the pulley ( I think, I did this a while ago, I don't recall having to get a new one).

    This Is about the riskiest way of doing it. You’re risking to break off the aluminum cast on the Kompressor where the clamps push against. Too many have ruined a $5500 Kompressor that KZread mechanic way. Your Pulley is made from aluminum and comes from Shardul Meta from Texas. He just sells them to Eurocharged and they mark them up and claim it’s “theirs”. The rivers are junk and eventually will come lose and will shred your engine cover. Last but not least your belt wrap kit is junk too. On a positive side: you speak clear, don’t cuss and dint speak 800 words a minute.

  • @EMFAudio

    @EMFAudio

    4 жыл бұрын

    If the supercharger broke, the clamps were too tight. I've never heard of anyone breaking those. As far as being junk and breaking and causing problems, I daily drove the belt wrap kit and pulley for 3 years without a single issue. Flawless service from the time of this video till a month ago when I sold the car, probably still fine now. Just because you paid 3x more for someone else's doesn't mean it's better or the cheaper are bad.
