E51: Metal Detecting Creek Beds Looking for Treasures

Ойын-сауық

In this weeks episode, seeing as how water levels are down, I decided to try something new. I went metal detecting in 3 different creek beds. All 3 of them I had found some really cool old relics and coins on shore, so I was hopeful that there might be some drops in the water. Tune in to see what it's all about as I give the 15" coil on the equinox 800 some more exercise!

Those holes are caused by flowing water spinning pebbles around in a slight depression on a rock, making it deeper and wider over millions of years.

Yessir they're not too bad. All 3 are on the downstream side of some major swamps that capture the trash and filter the water. Further downstream I'm sure there is more accumulation, but I always carry a backpack for trash when I'm out hunting. Have a great week Roberto!

I do enjoy talking to people :). One of these days I'll have to make videos again. This past year has been super busy in my life but the spring has some promise of slowing down. As far as gear it really depends on the environment you want to hunt in and what your budget is. Water from cheapest to most expensive simplex, equinox, Excalibur. Land in same order id go vanquish, equinox, xp dues. The simplex is ok as an overall machine. But not great. The equinox is significantly better but significant more expensive.

Do you keep the items you find that have little to no value especially when broken or incomplete? I just discovered all these videos and I'm looking forward to warmer weather to start looking. Not sure if my detector is water proof tho. Great videos!

To answer that first question can be complicated. I try to assemble displays of find for a specific area I hunt to show the history. When hunting somewhere I am less passionate about I still try to save most, but much of the trash ends up in the scrap bin to get recycled. Broken things sometimes I save, but it's really dependent on what they are. Thinks that tell a story get saved. What machine do you currently have? Thank you for the kind words about the videos, and I hope you have a great night!

I always keep an eye out for it the best I can but I have never found anything. So there's that haha. I know my area at one time was loaded with points, but even in the most remote areas I can't seem to find anything. I attribute it to my eye not being trained to know what I am looking for. Maybe it will someday be like the floodgates, but I suspect not haha. Do you have any tricks to spotting them?

Hello sir. I'm certainly not the authority on all the sand scoops available on the market, but I really like what im using. Its a T-Rex brand 8" stainless scoop. A lot of these creeks are very rocky and hard on scoops. So I really appreciate how strong this thing is. In beach sand, I would imagine even wire mesh would be fine. Hope that helps. I agree with you on the music. I got away from using it entirely because of this problem. When I would edit the stuff the audio levels would be great, but on youtube its like a moving target. If I listen on a TV it seems the most distorted. Very frustrating. But thanks for checking it out! I hope you have a great rest of your day and sending my best :-).
