E45 Tiny Home in a Greenhouse | Final inspection failed
Some inspectors are more picky than others. The new inspector is the former.
Live In A Greenhouse, the blog, goes into more detail of aspects of the project that are unique to a house inside a greenhouse: www.LiveInAGreenhouse.com

You are not a slave. Ignore the "inspectors". Build your own home and live in it.
I started typing "Living in a house in a greenhouse" and knew someone else out there felt the same way. Awesome! This is my dream setup, I don't care how hard it will be, I hope to do the same someday.

Thanks for joining, you've come to the right place! My goal is to show the reality of this kind of lifestyle; covering the kind of details I wish had been available to me 4 years ago.

You're not alone. Lots of growers' fantasy Working to realize the vision. Aka FRUITION
Some people really think they are powerful to be able to tell you what you have to do. This is definitely true with new inspectors!
As finals go, that one wasn't too bad. Easily mitigated and now you're done! Congratulations!

You're absolutely right. Just super small and picky things easily mitigated and now done! Whoo hoo!
Well done! I've been in some nightmare inspections. Yours looked to be pretty easy. Congrats!

Thanks, Robin. Yeah, it was easy; just annoying. Onward and upward!
They got us for the handrail groove thing on our deck here in Colorado.

Yeah, I wasn't actually upset about the handrail since that will be a permanent fixture. I didn't appreciate having to pay labor and materials to beef up the barricades around the ponds and to extend the pads outside the doors that are clearly only temporary to check a box. The way I see it, the entire greenhouse acts as 'safety fencing' around the pool to protect from trespassers falling in. Oh well. That's done and now onto the next project!
I'm guessing this type of build, would likely be considerably cheaper, less stressful in a different local government.
Yeah, you passed Inspection !!! 😃 Congratulations 🎊 👏 Maybe because you are on KZread, he felt he needed to follow the letter of the law in case someone watching might call him out.

Thanks Phil!
You've done this on a higher budget than most might alocate, although to me it's bizaree to welcome an inspector upon an unfinished project. I don't like the inspectors attitude much. Rather build in a county with relaxed requirements, or on more private land. PS: nice designs.
I would get someone to make up the plans, then get them approve before moving forward..Every project we have done, we always go through the planning board.. No surprises no problems inspections , were done at different stages.. Next years I'm building a greenhouse/home but it will be all approve before I start..

Please try watching earlier videos or reading my website and you will learn that both the house and greenhouse are fully permitted. In fact, it took 9 months to get my permit. There were multiple inspections before this one (E3, E16 and others). There was nothing wrong with the plans or house.
I have had this idea for the last 15 years and am so glad to see you living it. It gives me hope that I can accomplish it too. Do you share any information about the budget for such a build?

Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, I started a series about the costs (at E58) because so many people asked. But then so many people unsubscribed during those videos that I stopped after part 3. I'll probably finish the series but only post it on Patreon. There's also a lot more detail on my website www.liveinagreenhouse.com
Gee, those inspections didn’t seem so bad. I love the idea of living in a greenhouse. How will you keep your house from getting too moist?
@liveinagreenhouse
Жыл бұрын
You are correct, the inspections weren't bad, just frustrating. As far as moisture, I'm in the Pacific Northwest where it rains a LOT so the outside of the house is much drier than it would be without the greenhouse. Inside the house has the regular array of exhaust fans and the minisplit dehumidifies. Through the first winter the humidity in the house bordered on too low.
Congratulations!!!!

I'm tellin ya. A lawyer. Ya need a lawyer. The "locals" have no right to "inspect" anything "INSIDE" the walls of your "Greenhouse." Take it to the SUPREME COURT! This is really upsetting news ~~~ (from here in New Hampshire). You should look at the fine print of what (those who inspect) use. I have two friends who described what is required to build on Lopes Island there and it was all about mitigating wind damage. Just throw some steel cables over the greenhouse structure, anchor them with concrete and they absolutely should have nothin to say. I'm tellin ya. Just a travesty. 😠
