I did something similar but used the existing fog light wiring, and relay. Wired the left side fog light positive (close to the fan connector) to the 'high fan' wire. Replaced the fog light 5 amp fuse with a 30 amp fuse and it works like a charm. No additional wiring needed. On the cool down lap, and in the paddock, I run the fog light=high fan and the temp comes down to a reasonable temp. It does draw some current so use it while the engine is running. Easy.

I know this was 2 years ago but quick question. Did you swap both of the fog light fuses to 30a? The diagram says that fuse number 15 and 22 are both for fog lights. Just curious if you changed both or only one. Thanks

@@ensog6612 I just changed the one going to the driver side circuit feeding the fan. It works GREAT coming off from a track session.

@bmw4curt so you wired the fan to the fog light wiring or temp switch to foglight?

@@david33449 fog light switch directly to the fan using existing wiring thru the fuse block. Very easy.

What is i wanted to do this same thing but instead of what you did by cutting off the temp switch connector I leave it connected still and tap into the ground and high speed wire to be able to run the aux fan whenever I want of my choosing but still have the ability to let’s the car operate the fan how it normally does without me having touched the car in the first place ? You think there might be any issue there like a double signal feedback ? I’m really curious to try this since my car does have a cooling system problem and it leaks water, slow head gasket leak, and when I don’t make sure the water is topped off every few days what can happen is the sensor doesn’t even ever trigger the fan to come on because the water inside the radiator is low and not reach the sensor to warm it up enough to tell it to turn on. And by this time I’ll see my aftermarket temp gauge start to climb in temps and that’s when I realize I need to bypass the fan for now to have a safety in my system until i have the time to fix the engine myself and reseal the engine But ya that’s why I want to do this. Anyone think it might be causing problems if I leave the sensor still connected by also tap into the lines to have the optional on off trigger ? It’s basically just making continuity there is no voltage running across that sensor so I don’t think I can ruin anything but leaving the wiring untouched and just tapping it to have my optional trigger. Who else agrees or disagrees ?

You can actually do a Simpler Mod without going to anything or taking anything out. All you need a " Thermo Snap Switch " at your Temps rating desired. Then connect your Positive to your Battery (Add Fuse). The Negative will go into your Thermo Switch, then other Side go into your Ground / Chassis. The Fan will " ONLY " be on if the Snap Switch is at the Temp, that is it... It will kick On/Off Automatically for you

So when you hopped the wires = the fan is supposed came on? ===What color wires need to be hopped for the fan to come on??

I believe I have the same problem, however I get to the part where you say you hopped the wires and I get lost. What does that mean and how do I do it?

Thanks for the question! I just meant i connected the wires to test the connection and make sure that i had power to the fan. Does that makes sense?

If your cooling system was "bulletproof ", then why even bother with this modification? Was your auxiliary fan not working on its own. If it was, why modify it that way? I just don't get it.

Noom Revol it’s simple, didn’t want to buy a new fan, and wanted the ability to turn it on when sitting in line at the track and then shut it off right when my run group got the green light.

Will this allow me to do a fan clutch delete ?

I know people that have done that but i wouldnt reccomend it. To delete the clutch fan it should be replaced with a proper electric fan mounted with a shroud directly to the radiator.

If I understand this right, the aux fan is still powered from the original aux fan connector(so it does have a relay and fuse), he just removed the temp switch and connected it to the fog light switch. I see no issues with this
