Thank you 🙏🏼 . The 1/4 impact is definitely the key. I bought a really cheap one that only generates 80Nmx3000 min but that’s plenty. I had to let it rattle (wear ear defenders) for 5 minutes to get a plug out that probably was in there for 285000 km as it was a different brand and had corrosion on the body . Penetrating MoS fluid a week before and a daily 300 km drive. Hot engine.

Please, before unbolting the glow plug, CLEAN the area around the plug with brake cleaner and compressed air. You don't want the debris around those plugs to fall into the cylinder. It is even a better idea to clean that area BEFORE you spray the penetrant the day before. Ant the plugs must be torqued to 8NM (whatever that is in foot-pounds/inch).

I finally got around to changing 2 of my plugs, one came out like it was installed yesterday but boy, I spend 45minutes using, 1/4 impact, torque wrench, 3/8 Milwaukee impact on setting 1, then 2. Glow plug would move a hair, I would then go the other way, it would go 2 steps forward, then 3 steps back, it would bind up again .With the combination of all 3 tools and patience, I was finally able to free up the plug and remove without breaking.

The key is the penetrating fluid. I used ATF and acetone for mine. I am not so keen on using power tools for removal but can see the point. I invested in a reamer also to clean out the bores better and cleans the threads also. The plastic caps on mine just crumbled from age. They are easily replaced though. I used copper anti-seize on mine and it appears to work well. I remove them once every couple of years just to check on them and make sure they don't seize into the head. Personally, I replace on fail for these even though people would say they are manufactured about the same time and would expect them to fail around the same time. If two fail within months of each other, then I would consider replacing them all. Injector seals are the ones I would just go ahead and do all of them if one fails, the others are not far behind. I'd be interested in a video (I know there are plenty) about how you would deal with black death. I have my own method but always interested in how others handle it.Thanks for sharing the videos, I always enjoy them!

Can’t believe you didn’t gently hand start the new plugs!, using power tools to drive plugs into hole is quickest way to cross thread . Also using power tools to remove heater plugs can snap them. Better to use a socket and test how tight they are and then use power tools.

No problem of any kind but as a maintenance measure I want to take out the glow plugs, clean and put them back with a coating of anti ceasing compound. My question is which is the safest impact wrench to use on the glow plugs and what should be its maximum torquing power. Any recommendation for the impact wrench. Thanks.

It is highly likely the problem is carbonized material around glowplug heating end, and that carbonized material do not let glowplug come out. The solution is to tight it again and use fuel aditive and run engine at high RPM, about 4.000 RPM, something it is called "Italian tune up". To clean the carbon deposits inside combustion chamber cam be used also Liqui Moly 5168 to remove dirty into air intake circuit (Turbo, EGR, Valves and Combustion chamber. There are more systems like descarbonizadoras.com/puntos-de-descarbonizacion/ look at this video from NGK explaining how replace glowplugs kzread.info/dash/bejne/moKry49mnpPOabQ.html

Buy a Motive pressure bleeder, and 4 pints of Pentosin dot4+ brake fluid. hook the pressure bleeder up to the brake fluid reservoir, pump up pressure, and then just each bleeder screw one by one! the pressure bleeder is HIGHLY recommended since it insures you get all the air and old fluid out, and lets you do the job 100% by yourself. Injector #1 bolt on my car was replaced I think for this exact issue. The injector hold down clamp and head was drilled out and tapped to for a massive 10mm bolt. My suggestion would be to scour the web to find a long reach tap and drill bit in whatever size you can find in order to get a new bolt in. Don't be afraid to drill out the hold down clamp too to make this work, but make sure the hole is large enough for the hold down clamp to toggle back and forth to allow it to put down pressure on the injector.
