Save yourself some trouble, and prevent all that scraping and PCB damage and buy yourself a $10 solder sucker. You'll also want to get yourself a finer pitch (and sharper) set of diagonal cutters. Cut out parts, Apply a bunch of fresh solder as you push the leads through. A plastic solder sucker can clean those 10 holes in about 30 seconds. Drop your $4 in parts in, bend leads, cut leads, THEN solder.

I bought a solder sucker. So heat the PCB as well and suck that up as well? Don't attempt to scrape the PCB off first? Can you tell I've never done this before, lol

30 seconds to clean out ten holes... wait 3 secs a hole!? I was unaware solder would even melt that fast do tell your magic ! For a someone with less experience than you or myself, I would say that's a bit unrealistic expectation. but thanks anyways

@@dirtykurty92 yes, use a bigger tip/bigger iron to combat those large ground traces, apply fresh solder to each of the 8 holes, then switch to your solder sucker and clean 8 holes. Then move to the big capacitor and do those 2

So I successfully replaced my capacitors and everything is back to normal, starts in cold weather, auto window works, and so do the lock actuators! I was a bit scared to do this so I practiced on a circuit board from a non functioning LED tv.

@@dirtykurty92 Yes, who knew soldering could be so difficult. I was constantly worried about overheating the capacitors when resoldering but I got the hang of it. Such a sense of fulfillment now and on to my next project..... replacing the steering linkage and thrust arms.

Hello, I hope you are well Thanks for the video Thank you if you help me I have a BMW e34 535 My problem is with the closing of the windows One of them works properly and the rest of them open completely but do not close completely, and the problem is that the rm unit relay is cut off before the window is completely closed... Probably, this problem has arisen because the gm unit is not fixed and it has to be separated again by disconnecting the battery. I checked everything and everything was apparently correct, and I tried to reset and disconnect the battery, but it didn't work... My question is, will changing these capacitors fix my problem? Or should I do something else? Thank you for answering and guiding me Thankful

I am well! Thank you, yes that does sound like potentially you could have some failed capacitors in the gm, it is impossible for me to say for sure but just with the age of these vehicles and with it being a common issue on the 7 and 8 series, it definitely is possible it could happen on your vehicle as well

@@mr.recruiterp3583 Yes id would check the new ones just to make sure that you have a good part going in! anything within 10% of value is good! You should be able to use an ESR meter to get a measurement without removing anything from the board!

Yes, capacitor direction (aka polarity) absolutely matters! There's really no need to pre-test new parts if you bought them from a reputable site (Newark/Digikey/Mouser)

It will take time to locate each correct capacitor if you don’t know what your looking for, and depending where your buying you may get a bad one and not even know it. All the ones I have are good brands and I have tested all of them.
