    As a bilingual (JP and Eng) myself, I have mad respect for this translator, he actually did amazing job doing many on - the fly translating, especially with such varying subject matters discussed during this interview.

    It makes sense considering he has been working with Kojima for quite a long time. May I ask you, do you think the translation was, over all, accurate? Or was there anything that bothered you?

  • @GundamTech

    @GundamTech

    Eyah, the translation was over 95% accurate, the translator had to summarize in some bit since Korima was speaking too fast and didn't pause in-between his long sentences. What I really liked about the translator was that he did direct translating in most places, meaning did not speak in his own way, instead he spoke like if Kojima was native English speaker which is actually really hard to do on-the-fly.

    Why does his translator sound so awkward, then? He keeps stuttering and stumbling over words like he's really nervous or like he forgot what he was going to say. He also seems to skip some typical English words like "the". Honestly, this is the most painful Kojima interview I've watched, because of that guy.

    Most interview like this usually get the questions in advance, and it seems from the laptop, they did gave them "some" of the question, the issue was, Kojima went off script pretty much the entire time, so the translator had to translate many new stuff, AND various subject matter. As to why he was skittish, not sure, but it seems english might not be his first language (he is maybe Filipino?, not sure), and also Kojima wasn't giving him time to speak before going to next sentence, on top of not providing enough pause in between sentences.

    To all the 'Kojima fans' complaining about there being no discussion about Death Stranding: This has been mentioned days before E3, Kojima will not be showcasing DS and only be talking about movie related stuff with the director of the upcoming Metal Gear movie. Secondly, I also realize why every entertainment we consume nowdays has stopped surprising us. We are spoiled by the internet (forums, leaks, interviews and trailers) because of people like you. Kojima said DS is a completely new concept and game. It is years away from being released and you all want more footage and info on this. Why? Reaction like these is the reason developers are forced to spoil everything even before the product comes out and then we all complain again for having been spoiled. Angry rant over -_-

    The way Kojima answered the questions in terms film-making and the way he combines it with VIdeo Games especially around 7:32 (if that translation is accurate). that makes a lot of sense why Kojima had a lot of dispute with Konami while the production of MGSV TPP. Konami didn't respected him in terms of this - and now, we are here.

  • @evergaolbird

    @evergaolbird

    7 жыл бұрын

    I honestly think you are misinterpreting his words about "betraying his audience". The fact that KONAMI hold him under a controlled environment to not even able to oversee the mid-development progress of the game was all there to prove my point and nothing will change that. The guy always thinks out of the box and I really appreciate that - totally different to all of the rest of the Japanese developers there who intends to repeat everything. Sure good graphics "wow" - that's about it. Not Kojima, he'll do his best to be different - and KONAMI didn't like this route. Just look at what they are doing with Metal Gear Survive another version of a "ISEKAI" Zombie Survival Game, proves all of my point - Japanese developers love to repeat things.

    We know "Out of This World" as "Another World". And I'm with Kojima in this particular plot. Another World is one of those games that you play it today just for 10 minutes, and it's just like an amazing movie-guidance experience that changes every time the gameplay towars the situation for the players and the story. It's a masterpiece from Eric Chahi (Phantom 2040, Aen Flux) and it's still good looking with those camera angles and big secuences. There's an "Another World 20th Anniversary" game now that you should buy it and play it right away. It'll be hard to you to beat the game and reach the end, but you will appreciatte it indeed.

    THE16THPHANTOM MGS Games Cinematics are way ahead of it's time. Altough MGS 4 one is pretty bland I guess. MGS V is certainly interesting from cinematic perspective because there is an pure legit cinematography that Games rarely had. The cutscenes in MGS V were actually meaningful and tells us story in unconventional way that kinda backfired in gaming community (passive and almost muted storytelling, what you see is what you get) but is used in many movies.

    Just occurred to me that the recent return of Twin Peaks has striking similarities to the twist in Metal Gear Solid 2. Both intentionally subverted audience expectations and hype of a sequel to meditate on identity, deception, grief, etc. With MSG2, fans were hyped to play as Solid Snake once again but were given Raiden, who is us, the player. With Twin Peaks, audience looked forward to the return of Agent Dale Cooper, but is given Dougie Jones.

    Naughty Dog makes B movie games. Kojima makes Classic movies that you wont see anywhere else.

    oh sure that's why his games and dialogue are from a cheesy 80's B movie. He comes up with great stories but when it comes to the screenplay and real human emotions he has non. Except maybe MGS3 he really did a fantastic job on that but even mgs3 had some cheesy goofy cringe moments. Naughty dog has nailed emotions story telling and everything all around, Except maybe gameplay.

    +PapiDarko Kojima may not be perfect but his writing has a lot more soul put into it than Neil Druckmann''s safe and near uneventful Last of Us (I know damn well that this is the game you people were thinking about).

    You obviously must be very young. While I'm not crazy about druckman specially what he did with uncharted 4 making it too similar to TLOU, but TLOU is real human drama and people, the character expressed themselves without ever feeling fake. Kojima is talented but come on he's like a pervy 12 year old. Name me any scene in any game of Kojima that has as you say "Soul" than any scene in the last of us. Go ahead I'll wait.

    The last scene is MGS 3 when Snake has to kill the Boss, and Eva tells you why she did what she did.. Heart breaking drama...I felt nothing in the last of us. I wanted to kill ellie as soon as she opened her mouth

    I prefer cgi MGS movie instead of actual movie , like the cutscenes , I know it wont happen but that will work in favor of the franchise . this way there is no risk it go wrong .

    Konami are idiots for rejecting Kojima. Kojima is a Master in the game development world. Removing Kojima is like removing Cameron Diaz, Steven Spielberg, or Martin Scorsese in the movie world
