E15: 1930's General Store is OPENED for the First Time in Years after closing in 1991
Exploring Inside of the Robertson Store: Part 15 of Greasy Hollow Memories
It had been many years since the doors of the Robertson Store had been opened, but on this episode we go inside for the first time. After the grocery store closed in the early 90’s, Magdalene opened it back up as a Thrift store that she called, “Mag’s Junk Store”. The store still holds all of the cups, glasses, dishes and other household items that Magdalene had purchased from yard sales to resale. The store also still holds countless memories of three generations of Robertson’s that operated the store.

Really amazed at how intact and untouched everything is. You'd think after 30 years, someone might have wanted to break in. With a little bit of dusting and cleaning, this store looks like it can still run today as is.
I read in the comments he is 95 yrs old...he looks great how lucky is his family to still have him with them...priceless

When you suggested having a yard sale, my heart jumped into my throat. Then, he said," nobody'd want to buy any of that stuff, I thought , the items in this little store would sale out in the first hour! Please don't sell, but turn it into a museum. It'd be the perfect place for these up and coming generations to visit to see exactly how life was before computers and cell phones. Thank you for sharing this!

These places MATTER. They're part of your great country's history and should be listed and preserved, once they're gone they're gone, and just a memory remains, which itself will fade away. I live in the UK, and the village shop and corner shop have all but disappeared, knocked down and re-developed, usually to make way for housing estates. They call it 'progress' I call it a great shame. Love these videos.
Just happened to run across this video. Thank you for documenting and preserving the history of this gentleman and times gone by. These newer generations dont have a clue about life, or the ways we grew up in. I used to sit for hours and hours listening to my grand father talk about life and the old ways, war, hard times, the depression, and the history of his family. It seems that we lost a lot of history because it wasnt preserved like this. I hope this gentleman is doing well, and please tell him thank you for allowing you time and access to preserve history.

I agree I love listening to stories of years gone by and realize how easy most people have it today. (Me being one of them) No matter how hard the story, they still refer to them as “The Good Ole Days”!!! My Father used to tell me … “If I keep my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open, I might learn something” So true…
My husband & I just finished watching your program and really enjoyed it all! He is 81, I'm 79 - he was born in Arkansas but got to Texas as fast as he could. I'm born & bred in west Texas, so we married while still in high school. Ran off to Ojinaga, Mexico at 16 & 18 to be married by a justice of the peace, no we were not expecting a baby. Had our first of two children after 2 yrs of marriage. Now, I've told you way more than you care to know, lol. We plan to watch more of your postings and have subscribed to the channel. Come visit Texas sometime!
I just love this, I can only imagine the thoughts going through his head, all of the memories of times gone by... You could see it in his face, everything he touched and picked up brought back a memory.. Magnificent!!!!

I'm with you John the things I see in these old closed stores is a goldmine, maybe not in dollar wealth but in historical nostalgia, priceless.
This sweet old fella has no clue the money that this stuff is worth. Just the scale is probably worth $300 or more dollars…there is just no telling how much money he would have ended up with…bless his heart.

@@theappalachianchannel Hello, John…. I totally enjoy watching your videos. We live in east Texas…in Price. which is an unincorporated community in Rusk County….community that used to be named Carlisle over a hundred years ago and the school is still Carlisle Independent School District…very small. We are about 60 miles west of the Texas Louisiana border between Marshall on the Texas side to Shreveport/Bossier in Louisiana. Our next to youngest daughter lives in Kingsport, Tennessee…a beautiful area. I am proud to be a third generation Texan from when my great-grandparents, on my maternal side, came to America from France in 1872 and settled eventually in Dallas County where my grandfather was born in what would become Irving in October of 1887…if I were from anywhere else, I would love to live in Appalachia but I can’t leave my beautiful home state of Texas. Love your channel though. Have a fantastic Happy and Healthy 2023! Keep up the good work.

I would love to see a picture of that keychain, it looks just like the one my grandma had. She had every key on it and she had a brass Buick keychain on there.

@@theappalachianchannel I watch from Oklahoma. I really appreciate everything you do John.
I’m only 45 but I’d love to go back to these days. Life was simpler and people didn’t think they needed everything and try to keep up with everybody else.

I have never seen a place like this in my life. I couldn't imagine shopping in there but it would be fun to clean it all up and reorganize it and reopen it to see if people will come and shop the vintage items.
