Great video but now I’m even more confused about which to pick because warm lighting!! Could we get a reader vs a9 please! Is this basically the same product just with extra accessories or no? Also I thought Hisense mobiles didn’t do warm lighting but just checked with the a9 and it says it also has colour temperature and amber lighting?

Hey! Important detail too, the Hi Reader lacks the rear camera the a9 has. I couldnt figure out if it lacked the frontal one too, but it would be logical to assume. Aside from that, they do seem to be uncannily similar units.

If this can run Android auto, it could absolutely be my daily driver ! The only thing I would miss from my iPhone is the Apple Watch functionalities.

Is gps supported? Can you load any Google apps, like maps or drive? And any news on supported carriers? Seems like a dream device if it can at least give directions.

Pretty sure you can use maps and it had GPS. However it doesn't have a compass so it never knows what direction you're facing

It has GPS, however not working well. And I can't load Google apps. For the other apps, you can always download an apk and install it yourself. But Google apps, no, they are banned.

Very impressive performance for an e-ink device.

I use multiple translation look-up dictionaries on my old Kindle 5th generation. Is it possible to add DRM freed multiple look-up dictionaries in PRC\MOBI format to this device? Last time I used the Kindle app vs the Kindle device, the app would NOT let me manually add extra look-up dictionaries.

This is very cool! But when it comes to e-ink phones, Im dumb as a stump lol help me out... does this phone connect with Canadian cellular providers? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm looking to buy something to replace a 2nd generation kindle with native text-to-speech. Does this have any apps that will provide a similar experience?

I love the fact that HiSense has these devices (I have the A7), it just frustrates me that they have the Volume Control on the Right hand side of the device. Also the Battery management is a bit too aggressive for my tastes, on my device at least. not sure if this one also suffers. I missed messages because the 'background' apps got put to sleep and telling the device not to 'optimise' it didn't help. Look forward to all these videos and they are great!

Yes ,use VLC player to play ANY video files. I have uses the VLC player app on my NEW HISENSE HI READER PRO eink phone reader.

@@partha2806 I have used it when building an image for an already-well-supported device (op6), but I didn't have the time to try bringing up pmOS on a completely new device yet

Please compare the A9 ,as it looks very similar specs ,A9 has 2 cameras but the hi pro didn't had cameras.

Call me stupid, but I’m thinking about replacing my latest iPhone with this one. Force B&W is just so good to have to avoid any temptation.

Found the solution. 1y ago it was not there. Use shortcuts and automation to set color filter. The filter should be BNW. Don’t forget to increase the contrast too. Cuz we don’t want to have BNW mode on useful apps like todo list. It’s just not designed to be used in bnw and gets even harder. And turning off color took mind-power so to speak. And now my phone is BNW on all the apps, but those, where I need color. Todo. Finance. Etc. Amazing. Best of both worlds. (yea, 1y ago was not possible to set the filter via a shortcut)

Good luck , I recommend you buy the Hisense A9 , 6GB / 128 GB or the 8GB ram and 256 GB , both has HD cameras , this would be ideal replacement for those crappy iPhones 😂

There Is a lot of focus in this review on How this model performs as a Smartphone, but I really don't see the point of using It for videos, as well as Manga or PDF (too small). What I'm mainly interested to and unfortunately I don't find in the video Is the Reading esperience. I only see Amazon which Is Amazing, but what about sideloaded books? It doesn't have any Built in Reader such as the Onyx devices? What application would you recommend for that? Thank you for your support :)

As someone who has the previous version, the hi reader I can say no. You would want light mode all the way.

Yeah it's just a different way that Amazon goes about it. I'm not sure why either. Initially they pulled all of their manga engines from the manga model Kindle 2015

am I the only one who saw the hotspot button and thought of just getting this phone and if needed just use my old phone to use some of the google apps such as maps!!! honestly this might just be my solution to excessive screen time . I bet those looking for a phone like this have a somewhat of a good knowledge of android and all of the possibilities it has just by side-loading apps

How is the battery life? And is the typing experience responsive?

I have an A9. Battery life is fine. One charge a day works quite good. I leave home for work with a 100% battery, and usually come home for dinner with 60~70% left. The biggest problem is you can't install any google apps. I use iPad as a second device.

Yeah for sure, unfortunately we stopped doing drop tests back in 2013 as it was quite wasteful :-( We understand that it's kind of necessary to know how something will survive an impact, but we just couldn't justify wasting samples we could do giveaways for or donate to educational institutions Sorry :(

I actually ordered the hi reader pro and regretted it as I can't change my mind as they have despatched my order , the A9 has most amazing eink cameras :(

Looks nice but it's far too small for reading pdfs. And almost all the stuff I read are pdfs.

I have an A9 in green color! God it's a beauty and I love it! But to be honest, this thing is basically designed only for Chinese. They only have 2 language options, Chinese and English, and English version is a barely working translation. Not to mention that they banned Google services, Yeah, they banned Google services. You need to be a good hacker to use google apps on this device. So I, like many Chines users, have a second device like iPad or other smartphones. Also, I found a small interesting bug. I like deleting all backstage apps for an (imaginary) better performance of current app . So I am sure my backstage is always clean. Sometimes when I swith an electric button or get hit by static electricity, it starts playing apple music, without opening the AM app! That didn't happen to any other apps! Just apple music! It's not bothering but I know somewhere something is wrong.
