E-FLITE VIPER 90MM I ALMOST LOST HER! ONE TOUGH PLANE! by FGFRC

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I got real stupid on that last landing and it almost cost me my most expensive plane. I tried to land to slow with a Viper and you can't do that, more speed on landing, don't let wind get up under her cause the ground effect bites!!!
A little about the plane:
Flaps Yes
Retracts Yes
Trim Scheme Colors White / Red
Wingspan 55.12" (1400 mm)
Motor Size 3670 - 1950Kv Brushless Inrunner (installed)
Product Length 50.43" (1281 mm)
Fan Size 90mm EDF
Technology Smart, AS3X and SAFE
Product Weight 115oz (3257g) w/Battery, 89oz (2522g) w/o Battery

Well saved after all! Low and slow is always scary, but you can reduce the risk the way you do with tail draggers - keep the mains off the ground until the tail is as low as you can get it. Stall is determined by angle of attack, not by speed as such. That angle will be specific to each airframe, and designers who know their stuff will make the main gear legs just long enough to accommodate a full stall landing without a tail strike, which makes a useful indicator: If the tail is nearly level with the mains, there should be very little excess lift to bounce the plane. Happy flying, and good luck with the nose job!

I’ve had that jet and it’s notorious for bouncing in the air and going into a tip stall. After you see a bounce like that the only way to possibly save it is to throttle out and hope it comes out of it.

You’re not wrong. I just wrecked a FMS f-18 70mm. Put it all back together with a bottle of CA, the jet actually does fly better now. Or I’m just more aware of the characteristics and tendencies of the jet.

You should do a viper landing tutorial , all the videos I watch of this show it’s a harder to land plane and everyone has some pretty big bounces

Oui, l'avant a tapé du premier au début, provoquant tout l'épisode. Seul le cône avant était endommagé et déjà réparé. Merci et je la ferai voler à nouveau bientôt.

The first bounced landing happened because it came off the ground after touching down and then nosed over. You either didn't catch it with the elevator or it had slowed down enough that the elevator wasn't effective. They'll do that with full flaps. With the throttle off, the drag of full flaps slows the plane down so fast that you have a very short amount of time to get it on the ground before it quits flying. On the last one, the nose wheel hit first due to not enough flare. It's practically impossible to prevent a 2nd or 3rd bounce due to the speed loss from full flaps. The best thing to do is nail it after the first bounce and go around, but only use enough elevator to keep it from descending into the runway. My 70mm E-flite Viper will tip stall in a heartbeat if I flare much at all. I just about have to make 3-point landings with it. And if the nose wheel touches first, it's off to the races. I use the analog switch on the throttle stick and a mix to raise my flaps to takeoff position when the throttle is above 50%. That way, I don't have to reach for the flap switch before or during a go-around. I call it my "Poor man's TOGA switch" and have posted a video on how to set it up..

I can’t swing those $600+ Planes/ Jets. If I could it would certainly be the 90mm Viper. I actually could buy a few of them but I might be sleeping on the couch. LOL

I don't normally watch EDF videos, but the title sucked me in. I know you're happy, but I was expecting to see more damage. So, what would you say cause the crash?

I should have had a.better approach and a better angle of attack needed my tail down more with a more effective flare.
