Thank you for the feedback!
If you plan on going over 20mph , get a dual shock frame. Or get big tires. I'm telling you, comfort will be missing if you ride daily. Besides higher speeds puts more stress on frame.

Thanks for the comment. Keep in mind that in the UK, for any pedal assist bike that will assist over 15mph you will need a licence, insurance, tax etc to ride on public roads. And as you say, if you were able to ride a bike with assistance over this speed be prepared for hefty bills regarding the bikes upkeep as it will likely burn through drive trains pretty quickly.

@@wecycle384 great info on UK laws, wow! That suks!!!Needing all that BS to just ride e bike. Americans won't stand for those laws at all, our geography of space is too open for such requirements. Most of US upgrading our e bikes with two motors or a Turbo Booster add on motor to ride hills easily. But we do get stopped, checked, and ticketed if caught going over 20mph most states like Cali. We here in US modified our e bikes constantly but a few states getting fed up with the fires from DIY battery builds which will lead us to tough restrictions soon. Ride safe!!

Excellent primer. Just curious on the battery front...if the manufacturer should change models in a few years, would a replacement battery be hard to find? Are there any standards on the size and shape for replacement sale?

Hi. All big manufacturers (Yamaha, Bosch, Shimano) carry on supporting older versions for a number of years (possibly up to 10 years) so if this is a concern then I would recommend sticking with one of the main brands who are likely to offer support for longer.
At 15.5moh the assist cuts out right so on a torgue motor if u cycle at 15.5 you won't be assisted so I don't see the point. On a cadence motor you can rotate slightly and it will go 15.5mph
I need to replace my bike and I've looked at so many different e-bikes and it can get confusing because some of the ones I've seen only have about twenty miles of range, but then I've seen some with four or five times this but the bike has cheaper parts on it I want to get one with a detachable battery just to make it easier to charge. I assume the charging times are around 4-5 hours. There are other considerations such as how often to charge the battery, leaving it charging overnight, whether to leave it empty if you're not using it for a while, where to store the battery if it is removable and the expected lifespan of the battery While I live in a built up area, to get anywhere near me I have steep hills in all directions so I need something that is powerful enough to get up those hills as I've cycled them on a regular bike, and while I'm not unfit as I do a lot of indoor cycling, I do find them difficult and I have to get off partway up and walk the rest

Hi Matthew. Yes lots of variables will effect the range, so if this worries you get as big a battery as you can within your budget. Maybe even look for a bike that can have a second battery fitted as well. Charging time is roughly 4 hours, yes. Although most chargers are smart and so should shut off once the battery is charged you shouldn’t leave them on over night. If storing them away if you aren’t going to be using it for a while then most batteries like to be left at about 60%. A lot of the chargers with Giant bikes come with a hibernation mode to help with this.

@@wecycle384 I've been looking at getting the Raleigh Centros. It meets all my needs and has over 100 miles of range and they also do a range extender (but not something I'll really need)
As I live in Wales and it likes to rain ALOT can you still use an ebike in the rain for long periods of time

Absolutely! We are based in Wales and have one customer who commutes 10 miles each way on his Giant e-bike every single day of the year - no matter the weather!
