Finally someone who shows properly how to dismantle the dead dog smelling Dyson.

Successfully disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled our Dyson v6 cordless vacuum with this excellent guide. It really needed a thorough cleaning, but this did not resolve the issue I'm having with the motor stopping after about 30 seconds when using it in MAX mode. (Had also recently replaced the battery.) Works well when not in turbo mode but used to also work for long periods of time in MAX. For those of you who have never tried to disassemble a device with the hidden snap features like removing the handle it might be a challenging and scary process. It took quite a bit of force to release the clips on mine, but his process does work. He makes it look easy but probably because he knows how much force it takes to do it and not break the snaps. (and I suspect he's also disassembled that unit before and it's easier the second time ... ;-) Buy this guy a coffee !

Great tear down information, you touched on my main problem and a suspect a problem for most other owners of the V8. And that is, how to get the intake neck off the bin, the flap is stuck inside mine and I would like to get it apart for cleaning. I can’t quite see how to get the electrical connector out of the neck to get at a suspected hidden screw. Any help would be appreciated.

Excellent tear down. For years I have had to do this once a year. You know it needs cleaned when hitting MAX pulses and the brushes are otherwise fine. However, I have been doing a modified/easier version. I just remove the cyclone/canister from the power/head like you demo using the screw drivers to release the clip. I then flush the heck out of it with good water pressure, flushing from every direction. Takes a good :10 minutes until water runs clear. I then let it dry for about a week. So far I’ve done that 3 times. Next time I’ll do your full version.

Leaving water soak in the machine for that long could lead to moldy odors from your vacuum. Fully disassemble, wash and dry, then reassemble. No other way.

Do you know where to buy the sponge filter in the motor head? Cant seem to find one...maybe just make one up if I cant!

  • @kit3824

I’m struggling to get into the handle/Motor head part 😫 and before I took it apart there was dust blowing through that part so I suspect it really needs doing! I’m worried too much force will break it, but I just can’t seem to manage it. Pre-cleaning, the blue light was working to say there was power, but it just wouldn’t work for more than a second.

Great video, for the absolute model does the HEPA filter need to be attached for the vacuum to turn on? Mine won't turn on and i will buy a new filter if that's the reason.

No, it has now way of detecting if the filter is attached or not. Could be a battery issue?

@sawickipedia, my V6 won't charge any longer and I've tried a new battery with no help. I've heard that a tear down like you've done to clean can help rectify this non-charging issue. Have you experienced/heard the same?

  • @Sawickipedia

Not that I'm aware of. If the battery is ok, then it's likely the charger itself is at fault. You can connect the battery straight into the charger without it being installed in the dyson and the charging lights in the battery should light up if everything is working

I have 2 Australian Shepherds. They have a double coat of 2 layers, outer and inner. I run the Dyson stick vacuum daily. The bin completely fills with dog fur and dust daily. The Dyson stick vacuum gets clogged with dust daily. Do you have any recommendations to minimize cleaning as daily disassembly is not an efficient use of my time?

honestly you could put a prefilter on the prefilter and just throw it away as needed. Buy some felt material from the fabric store and cut it to shape, wrap it around the prefilter and rubber band it in place. If your prefilter is already brand new then the additional filter material should not restrict the vacuum flow too much as to cause an issue. If you do this with a used prefilter (already partially clogged) then it may negatively restrict the vacuum's suction power.

my V6 has an interesting problem, as soon as I plug in the battery it starts running. wont stop. I tore it down to access the switch mechanism, but it doesnt look the power switch is handled through there... I assume the small button on the battery that activates the blue light also triggers the power output? replacement battery the best fix?

  • @Sawickipedia

    @Sawickipedia

Correct. The switch on the vacuum itself is just a lever that pushes down on the switch on the battery. If you remove the battery you should be able to see the lever part move up and down when you pull the trigger. So if that part is moving correctly, then the problem is with the switch on the battery itself

@@Sawickipedia got it. Yea that part moves fine. I guess the battery switch is stuck. The blue light turns off when not pressed but the mains power must be stuck. Everything on the battery is acoustically sealed so not much to do there lol

There's a notch at the top that needs to be lined up and inserted first. Once you get that in, you should be able to firmly push it together and you'll hear a click when it's done
