    Great video. I'm just using heavy duty foil as a deflector. It didn't seem to block the flow of smoke. I just wrap one of the racks with the foil and seems to do the job

    I know this is an old video and maybe you'll see this comment, but did you make that exhaust looking object where the firebox attaches to the smoker? That's a fantastic solution to a problem I have when burning straight wood. Let me have the deets.

    Haha, it was an HVAC duct piece you can get at a homedepot or lowes. I would go with a different piece that goes straight out, not down. Thanks for watching!

    Glad you enjoyed the video! I think you will love the smoker, it is a lot of fun and you can feed an army with the amount of space! If you modify it, make sure to use a straight piece of ductwork, not downward like mine. I have already modified it. Cheers!

    I ordered a new Dyna-Glo vertical smoker and it arrives on Thursday. I am a bit nervous that I wont be able to keep the fire burning since this will be my first time ever using a smoker.

    Hey Diego! You will be fine, don't overthink it. Make sure to use a chimney starter for good lump charcoal. Build a good base of coals and feed the smoker wood (and charcoal if needed). Keep the main cooking chamber door shut. You can play with the vents until the smoke is right and temperature is holding well. Practice makes perfect! Start with a pork butt, its difficult to hurt those. Good Luck!

    Eh did that internal baffle where the firebox meets the chamber come standard? Looking at buying this model but haven't seen that attachment.

  • @AJXLMedia

    @AJXLMedia

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello Welsley! Thanks for watching. No the attachment does not come with the unit. It is an HVAC duct I purchased from a hardware store. I was attempting to disperse the heat away from the side with the firebox. Normally I have used water pans. If you do look for a mod I would use a straight piece of HVAC ducting to push the heat towards the middle more, maybe with holes in the top.

    Why put in the oven? just finish it off in the smoker...

  • @AJXLMedia

    It was easier with that smoker to finish in the oven. It can take a lot to keep that up to temp depending on the weather and wind, its like feeding a train haha.

    you make the deflector coming off the firebox

  • @AJXLMedia

    @AJXLMedia

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes. I usually put a water tray on the right side just over the firebox opening to help deflect heat. Or you can get a deflector to push the heat more towards the middle of the unit. Do not get a downward facing deflector, I would use a straight piece of hvac ducting or even a slight angle upward but towards the middle.

    Hello Robert! You can match you cook temperature @ 250° or even bump it up to 325° to 350°. Its really all about preference and how much time you have. The pork will be wrapped and steam in its own juices, it is really hard to mess it up. Good Luck! Thanks for watching!

    Where do you get the mod from firebox to cook chamber

  • @AJXLMedia

    @AJXLMedia

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey Max! You can check any hardware store like Ace, Home Depot or Lowes. Look in the HVAC isle for duct work. This is a 10 or 12 inch wide by 4 inch (?). Just measure your opening. I would get a straight piece to disperse heat, not the downward angle like I did (that's why I had to drill holes in it). I cooked with it for 2 years without the mod, so you can do that as well to see how it works for you. Good luck!

    @@maxburgess8931 Hey Max! I used self tapping metal screws for the ductwork. One of the holes I had to drill first. As for putting together the smoker, make sure to use an RTV sealant to make an airtight seal around all the seams, firebox, etc.

    What type of coating is on that duct¿? Is it safe?

  • @AJXLMedia

    @AJXLMedia

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is HVAC ducting and I burned it off at 300 degrees before cooking. No coating. I ended up removing it, the mod should really be a straight piece of duct work to push the heat into the middle of the smoker. 10 inches wide by 3 to 4 inches deep or wider if you can find it.

    @@moesbackyardbbqgrill8646 lol yes. I normally block it with 1 or 2 water pans on the right side. A straight duct work would work the best with holes in the top I think. I removed that mod, I couldn't always get the smoker hot enough and it took twice the fuel (which is already alot lol)

    @@AJXLMedia see I tried the water pan on the first Dyna smoke, I couldn’t break 200 with it, even fully loaded with a fan feeding air through. Once I removed the water, I was able to hit my stride. I might try it again with a smaller water pan, but I do like the mod you did (and removed), but I see why it could be detrimental. I may have to do some tests with and without the mods to check for hotspots and dead zones...maybe a future video for me to do. Biggest concern now, finding a better line on charcoal, lump nearly vanishes from my neck of the woods after fall, I really have to hunt for it or pay out the nose to get it.
