hehe, I keep finding this kind of "cactus juice" and "wood dye" in this context (which is very very cool, and I make knife scales among other things)... but I harvested a variety of Eastern prickly pear (cactus fruit) that bleeds an extremely concentrated magenta dye juice. I'd like to dye wood of a Native American flute with it. Sounds simple but since no one wants a flute that looks like a chair leg with polyurethane clear coat (which would have safely locked in iffy-permeating dyes) then I need to prepare both the surface and the dye (pH? acid? alkaline? neutral?) so that it has the least possible tendency to wash off. These flutes are usually finished with bear-fat-mimicking compounds of, like, a snotty mix of beeswax and oil. I might compromise and at least use a polymerizing drying oil like food-safe walnut oil (lightly) to protect the natural dye finish (that's not been soaked in a vacuum). I do need to finish my vacuum chamber. My dye howitzer I made with a 60's cast iron flywheel refrigerator pump and a big PVC cylinder.

Great video! Keep them coming :D That used a lot less of the resin than I expected, and handy tip of putting in plastic blocks to raise the juice level above the top of the wood Where do you source the wood with the ?raw? edges, I'm wanting to do the same myself, for a few sculpture projects, but falling short with sourcing that kidna woody bits.
