    I have been fantasizing for months about creating a colorway EXACTLY like this but searching and searching for a tutorial, piecing together this and that piece of info from here and there. (All the while obsessing over, and learning SO much from all your other incredible videos.) When I saw that you posted this video I was SHOOK! Is it in the air? I was about to just take a leap and use everything I had learned from you so far to try and make this dreamy yarn... and then you straight up show me that it works to do it in the way I was just starting to imagine but then on top of that upped the ante with the citric acid powder... I mean... you are just so, so, SO cool! I want to thank you so much for all of the work you obviously put into creating this content and I am sincerely just amazed at all the wealth of information that you are so generously sharing. And your sponsorship model... I think you might be a genius!! I wish you nothing but continued success. Thank you for the inspiration!!

The colors are so cheerful and bright would be great for some children or baby knitting or adults too. I don't have fluorescent orange and I love how it broke to add the yellow which just added to the colorway. Beautiful!!!

    Have you tried dying the white up after speckling? Like to see if the already set speckles stay when dying up the blank/uncolored yarn in the skein?

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    Жыл бұрын

    I have done speckles first followed by a tonal layer. This can work very well and the speckles are still visible unless you use too dark of a color. In general, I prefer to do a tonal first followed by speckles because then I have a little more control where the speckles are (e.g on lighter areas vs darker ones)

    Can you over dye the speckled yarn without losing the speckles?

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    4 жыл бұрын

    yes! There's a chance that some fluorescent colors might bleed when re-introduced to hot water, but in general you can speckle first and then overdye.

  • @BlueLotusLife

    Hi Rebecca! Do you ever speckle over a yarn that you’ve already dyed and heat set? Like dark speckles on a tonal?

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes! I don't often let the first skein dry first, but there have been times when I've dip dyed yarn and then added speckles etc. :D

    If you could handpaint a name or symbol with the fluorescent dye onto a black sweater and then wear it to a black light party, you'd be super-groovy.

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    4 жыл бұрын

    That would be soooo fun. I've tried over dyeing a fluorescent yarn with black once and the fluorescence didn't come through under a black light, unfortunately. kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4Gd0syAdtLOerA.html BUT I could also try this by starting with black and then adding the fluorescent colors.

    Can you did this technique to a garment/cotton fabric item or only yard?

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    You can speckle fabric or cotton with fiber reactive dyes. I'm not sure what fluorescent options are avilable but there are surely some.

    I will try this technique on silk fabric!!! should I pre soak my fabric in water with vinegar or salt? And should I leave it overnight or just for a couples of hours? Also is there an specific vinegar ratio to keep in mind?

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    3 жыл бұрын

    Vinegar for sure - salt may slow down absorption to result in fewer speckles. The presoak maybe overnight so it is well saturated.

    Hi Rebecca. Do you have a video regarding yarn comparisons ie 80/20 vs 75/25 both merino wool and nylon. Also what do you say to someone who says indie dyed yarn ie 75/25 is not as strong/ durable as store bought 75/25. Thank you Rebecca. Still enjoying your videos.

  • @ChemKnitsTutorials

    @ChemKnitsTutorials

    2 жыл бұрын

    There are many different sources for 75/25 sock yarn for indie dyers and commercial yarn lines. (EG - there are commercially dyed colorways on the exact same 75/25 base that I use personally.) I wouldn't expect to have a different durability difference in one versus another. Both indie dyed and commercially dyed yarn can bleed under certain circumstances. I haven't done a true side by side of 80/20 vs 75/25. The bases are EXTREMELY similar and can be hard to distinguish. Some knitters prefer one or the other depending on the project. Since I don't typically make socks (i'm a barefoot kind of gal) I don't have a huge preference for sock wear and tear.
