    Thanks for this, Dante-san! Now that we know there’s more of that 1988 Independence Day special in this audio clip, it appears that the interviews and Orly Mercado’s spiels in between the songs were taken from a GMA TV special, which LS-FM then repurposed for radio - at about 32:27, there’s a pre-recorded voice-over chiming in with “in just a short while...” (which was then typical as end credits roll on a GMA TV show - the announcer stating the end of the show, promoting another show airing the next day, then stating what show is coming up next). Also good to hear a little bit of the late Fred James here - a treat for so many of us who used to listen to LS-FM during its glory days, and need to remember how he sounded like (RIP, Sir Fred). With one of the news items in that part of thr aircheck being the death of NBA star “Pistol Pete” Maravich, this would have been from January 6, 1988 (Maravich died January 5, US time).

    Thanks for your detailed comment. I also noted the woman's voice suddenly cutting in and wondered what it's all about. BTW, it's really sad that people on airwave we used to be familiar with pass away one by one...though we can't fight it...R.I.P., Mr. Fred James.

    "Copying" a radio station wasn't a legal trouble for Philippine broadcasters like this back then. Similar callsign, different frequency, different ownership, but SAME JAM JINGLE PACKAGE. It was repeated this 2020 by Mareco and its blocktimer when 105.1 became a copy of Netherlands' Q Music FM.

  • @mangdannyboy

    @mangdannyboy

    3 жыл бұрын

    It’s not even “copying.” It’s actually buying a jingle package then having it CUSTOMIZED for the station - that, in this case, does happen to have the same call letters as the original WLS in Chicago.

    GMA Radio-Television Arts entered the Frequency Modulation arena on February 14, 1975 when the Republic Broadcasting System introduced 97.1 WLS FM, first known as World Love Songs 97.1 with an Easy Listening genre and it's slogan "The Home of the World's most beautiful Love Songs". This was also the same day the Far East Broadcasting Company Philippines' DZFE returned via 98.7 and the Manila Broadcasting Company's DZMB came back on the 90.7 frequency. DZXX 890 changed it's callsign and frequency as DWLS-FM and 97.1, when they were World Love Songs before it became 97.1 WLS FM and The Giant 97.1 WLS FM. On April 30, 1992, the same day DZBB 594 Radyo Bisig Bayan initiated their 24/7 operations, DWLS-FM reformatted as Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM, as the station started their own 24/7 operations
