    My dad died unexpectedly in my arms at the age of 63. I wish I could sing this song as I have a fairly descent singing voice but I can’t make it through the first stanza without losing my voice and having to purse my lips...it hits home.

    I lived in Round Rock Tx. I loved it. Signed, a Native American from Minnesota. I miss the South and all the wonderful, loving people. Thanx, Ya' All. I was carrying out groceries for a company called H.E.B. I carried the groceries for these small elderly lady, she said, "You are so kind and polite, where are you from?"     Everyone comments that this song is about alcoholism but I think the song is more of a reflection of how the lifestyle that a sick place like LA that just chews people up and spits them out does to people, that kind of city, that kind of life, that a person who was living the slow real life of “Dixie” wouldn’t be drinking themselves to death on a street. LA is the cruel world , the darkness of that shallow existence isn’t good for the soul. Dixie is real, is the light in the world, the beauty, the down to earth heart, the thing people wish they could run back to even when it’s too late because they realize what matters in life at the end.

    Mom named me after the south. I was in a college history class and the professor told the whole class Dixie means rebel as he stood by my desk. I said, "I'm an angel" with a bit of anger in my voice.

    Hey sis, it is sis right? I have lived in southern Cal sense Ike was President though born in Camp Chaffee Ark. I always considered myself a northerner but having done a ancestry chart on my family see they came from Arkansas and N. Carolina with everyone I could find serving in the Confederate army so have taken another look at my family's past southern pride too..

    I really enjoy Dwight and being a true southern, I Sang Dixie, is one of my favorite. I have a great deal of respect for Dwight and his friendship with Buck Owens. Hearing him sing at Buck's funeral waso touching. In spite of the age difference, they were the best of friends, rare these days. Dwight even admitted he loved Buck Owens. I am sure it went the other way too! Cheryl

    I had 14 broken bones as a I played in a ditch in November . I guess the cold muddy ditch stopped the blood flow coming from that chunk out of my leg as I flipped that Datson pick up truck in 1977.
