I wanted a seestar but since they don't have any until next year, I bought the dwarf 2. I could not be happier. And with the new app that should be out next week it should be even better. Good comparison.

Seestar and DWARF serve different purposes for me. I like both. I look forward to the next software release to see what DWARF can do with autofocus and 1x1 binning for DSO.

@@PompeyObservatory This video & your comment's are really helpful. I've noticed that the S50 is way easier to focus & I have to use a Bahtinov Mask to get the D2 really sharp.

Auto darks at the start of every session and autofocus are two big advantages in Seestar.

Hopefully after watching a demonstration of of the new app it appears that they may have fixed the issue with taking pictures of planets.

I do not hold my hopes too high for imaging planets with a 24 mm aperture, but I will wait and see the new sofware.

My seestar is already in the mail. Can’t wait to get it, such an amazing device. Btw: you can print (and buy if you want to) adapters for the seestar to mount any filter you want to, so the point on your comparison isn’t correct 😉 (zoom in the seestar app is also possible with the pinch gesture, just saying, it isn’t really important 😊)

The new app in the Dwarf seems to allow binning 1x1. That changes anything of your evaluation?

I ran a mini-Messier marathon with DWARF 1x1, kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIV51NONnZPXg9Y.html and I got mixed results. Some targets looked really good (M45) and others underwhelmed. Two-inch glass collects four times more light than one-inch.

Thanks for this video… My Seestar arrived this week and because I watched several of your videos, I was imagining in minutes. I have question about the Compass in the Seestar. You mention pointing it North. My question is which face of the Seestar base do you have facing north?

  • @PompeyObservatory

I am glad to hear my videos are helpful. I point Seestar so that the ON/OFF switch points East, and when the telescope opens the lens points North. HOWEVER, Seestar has confused South for North a couple of times, so I start the night by going to Polaris as my first target, then all is well.
