Dwarf Alberta Spruce Bonsai - 5 Years Later

Ever see those red potted spruce tree's at the home goods store during Christmas? Well I went through a bunch till I found one I liked - this is 5 years later. All work is done in January/ February on my spruce - Right in the middle of winter when the sap is not flowing. Repotting done after the last frost of winter.

I simply do Bonsai in parallel with my busy life as a way to relax and connect to nature. I approach bonsai with a very simple approach, simple tools, and just start working.

At 8:34 I noticed the gnome carved in the lower trunk. Thanks for the inspiration. I've had this little spruce I wired up once a few years ago, really not liking it finally going to make it into a dramatic little tree that I like!

Beautiful tree, and a wonderful approach to the styling and shape overall. The opposite wiring direction tip is a great one, thanks!

Thanks, yeah that way you can a lot of character to the branches as opposed to unsightly swelling

Nicely proportioned bonsai. It would be cool to see this as a centerpiece for a forest grouping.

The tree is very healthy, the dead part is done on purpose called a jin - it's to simulate great age in a high mountain tree
