Wunderbar - der Celloklang ist atemberaubend schön !!! Und ein grossartiges Zusammenmusizieren mit dem Orchester !!!

"There have been a number of outstanding recordings of the Dvorák Concerto since this DG record was made, but none to match it for the warmth of lyrical feeling, the sheer strength of personality", said the Gramophone Classical Music Guide in 2010, which I think perfectly describes this wonderful record. Despite the talk about Karajan being "boring" and "uninspiring" (which he isn't), Rostropovich is in top form and the BPO plays as beautifully as ever. It also got a Rosette from the Penguin Classical Music Guide, which I think it definitely deserved. Truly a wonderful recording.

Fantastic remastering of a beautiful performance that always suffered under rather muddy, obtuse recorded sound.

This has been my favorite recording of the cello concerto from the day this album was released. Rostropovich brings new life to a wonderful composition like no one else has in my opinion. I still have this record, and it's one of the reasons I keep my turntable hooked up. Vinyl still has a sound that CD's don't quite replicate for my ears.

What a shame that this recording wasn't done a year later. James Galway started playing in the orchestra in -69, I think, and the first flute part contains some nice solos.
