    He is the poet among the cellists.Especiaally i love his vibrato and phrasing the music but short lived man.Unbelievable sound.Thank you for posting this historical video.

    Feuermann passed away 1942 so the recording year can’t be 1950

    Yes!!! I'm sorry..... is 1940 but doing a lot of video sometime the mistake come....... Thank you (I put in the text 1940, but not in the video beaucause if not I have to do again.... I'm sorry again)

    Fuermann was king of chellist and this remaster is excellent!When this recording was released in 80's, sound of orchestra was quite terrible. 1:32 photo is not Dvorak but Chaikovsky.

    「フォィアマンは、カルーソーのフォルテのアリアを聴いて感激して、<バッハ:無伴奏チェロ組曲>を全部フォルテで弾いて、聴衆を感激させた」と暴論を吐いた日本の大(?)歌手がいた。馬鹿げている。このフォィアマンの演奏が全部フォォルテであろうか。バッハを全部フォルテで弾く意味はない。大体、フォィアマンは、バッハの無伴奏チェロ組曲の第六番は、カザルスのようにはとても弾けない、と言った人である。フォィアマンの弟子が、ミュンヒェン音大の教授だった。そのレッスンを覗いたことがあった。最強音~最弱音まで、自由自在に演奏することが、我々の目標である。フォィアマンのフォルテは有名である。チェロの駒を高くしたのである。ビンビン鳴った。シャリアピンの弱声も素晴らしい。音楽=フォルテではない。心を打つことである。齋藤秀雄も駒を高くした。弟子は、フォルテで有名である。しかし、フォルテはミスが判っていまう。完璧でなくてはならない。アンサムブルは完璧でなければならない。私は、フォィアマンを聴いて、音楽の真実は誠実でなければならないと思った。演奏家は、人間として、誠実、優しく、温かく、聴き手の心を掴めなくてはならない、と思った。吉田阿吽旅人

    Many nice aspect in his playing -- great technical abilities ! But very often is is just rushing over the music, so many amazingly deep and harmonically and musically interesting spots he is just taking very quickly -- that is a bit of a shame really !

    The more you listen to it, the less it sounds rushed and the more the nuances of his phrasing shines through. I think he's incredibly expressive.
