Truls is my favorite cellist. He puts his all into every note. You can't help but be moved by his beautiful playing.
That duet of cello and violin. That duet alone is worth everything.

checked numerous other performances, this is still my fav one.
38:50 wow I just can't get over how moving this part is with the violin and cello duet not only because it was impeccably performed but by the way that Mork looks over and the two all of a sudden have a connection, one that can only be felt through the uniting power of music

Hello I agree with you and I also say that these moments lead us to another dimension. Edson Barreto Niterói-RJ Brasil
Very fine Dvorak indeed with Truls capturing the true Dvorak style. No Haydnesque, no Schumann, no Brahms - this is DVORAK. The Czech spirit has to be present in Dvorak performances. Well chosen tempos.

neonRTowner You are absolutely right...This cello concert is my favorite piece...had very much hard time to find the perfect performance... I have listened almost all versions what are available on KZread... something was always off...I am a professional musician, so critical ear is given...either the tempo, the tone of the violoncello, the orchestra, or the interpretation was off...this is just perfect...perfect in all the way to the last note!!! Thank you for sharing it!!!

For an outstanding CD recording, easily the equal (and surpassing in several orchestral areas) try on BIS records, Neeme Jarvi with Frans Helmerson (cello) Gothenburg SO - the Dvorak Cello Concerto and Waldesruhe tone poem. Amazon for less than $5.00 delivered.
I'm a cellist, and I get an almost orgasmic euphoric feeling when playing concertos similar to this one. It's only happened like five-ish times. is that just me?
Exquisite. I have wondered if there is anyone who can play Dvorak like Du Pre did and now I have found him.
he is the best cellist in world!! and i love his cello!
Amazing sensitivity. Most gifted cellist Truls Monk is.
I have heard this concerto played live 6 times including Yo Yo Ma and as great as he and the rest were,it's my very great regret that I couldn't have attended this performance.Breathtaking in its technical virtuosity and emotional honesty.
Returned to this performance after a year and am still in awe of it. Truls has magic in those fingers which anyone can admire. That phrasing at 11.16 is unique. Wonderful, wunderbag, maravilloso y fantastique.
Agreed that this is a beautiful performance by a cellist I regret I'd never heard of before. Just shows that so many of us are conditioned with, Rostropovich, Du Pre, Yo Yo Ma, et alia, the so-called greats, while there are so many more around who warrant equally great acclaim such as here. Shall be looking for more of this cellist.

I love this generation of cellists so much, That includes Truls Mork, Gautier Capucon and Daniel Muller Schott. All of them play with emotion, and with maximum regard and appreciation for orchestra members. They all realize that playing the Dvorak Cello Concerto is a team effort, just like the rest of his compositions. That's one of Dvorak's strengths. All 3 of those guys know how to make it work for everyone.

I've been listening to Truls for a bit over a year and think he's on the same level as those greats. I'm sure there's a reason his name doesn't usually appear on the same lists but his style of playing is so perfect for preserving the integrity of the composer. If I ever want to reference a recording for how to play a part, I usually go to him first.

@@freemanmoser2829There is actually one reason he is not that popular. I think he doesnt even want to be that popular. I think truls is a very calm guy that wants his peace without being a celebrity.

@@freemanmoser2829in my opinion he plays even warmer and his cello sings more than of any other cellist
Not to take away from this truly great interpretation of this, in my humble opinion, way underexposed masterpiece, by the orchestra as well as soloist, this, by far, is the single greatest ending in ALL (and I do mean ALL) of music...conveying a sense that the cello had a really great time playing with the rest of the orchestra but it is now time to say a heartfelt "good-bye", you can almost picture in your mind the cello waving "bye-bye" to the orchestra...and, in a stroke of musical genius, what does Dvorak do but write the most glorific, uplifting piece of orchestral fanfare to finally end it all...as if the orchestra was saying: "We enjoyed the experience of playing with you all the more...please come back!"....Bravo, Bravo, Bravo...
nice audio quality. this orchestra sounds top notch. Truls Mork's playing is so inspiring. Every phrase has such a sincere quality. He is not up there trying to showcase his abilities, he is only concerned with properly conveying the meaning behind the music. Everyone should take this as an example of how to play a concerto like this. I've never heard a musician that can convey an idea with just one note the way he can. This is what it means to be an "artist."

My God...this is good. Maybe one of the best.
Of all the cello concertos I've listened to this is my favorite. Truls Mork does a fantastic job...loved the Adaigo.
43:05 This part is absolutely beautiful, no one but him does that part in a magical way. Best version ever.
God bless this man!!! ...oh well, He already did :) Marvelous Truls!!!!! One of the best performances I've ever listened of this grandious Concerto. Thanks a lot for posting!
This is an excellent production; the TV director seems to know the score as well as the conductor :-) !
Thank you so much for the brilliant cello and orchestra as well.
Norway has been trully blessed with great virtuosos like Andsness and Mørk. The latter is a phenomenal interpreter of my beloved cello concerto! Hardly anyone has done justice to this concerto the way he has! ❤ It goes without saying hat this concerto is the greatest cello concerto ever. But imo there's more to it - it's perhaps the most formidable and most touching of all the romantic concerti for solo instrument and orchestra ever written! The melodic richness and beauty of Dvorak's music is eternal but it takes a great musician like Mørk to fully show it! Oslo Philharmonic orchestra provides a great accompaniment, too!
Everything is beautiful- no artifice. A true master of the cello. Thank you, Truls!

This is one of my favorite classic pieces here on KZread.

Magnificent cellist. Takes his time, doesn't rush. Plays with energy and soul. Maestro Rostropovich would be proud.
Always enjoy this. Always touch me .
I first watched this video right after it was posted, and came back a few times over the years. I always find it the most beautiful thing. Too bad this time it was interrupted some 6 times with a loud ad from clickup... no, I don't love those charts, thank you.
grandissimo!me lo ricordo giovanissimo a Roma , già formidabile artista.
A very delightful performance of Dvorák's Cello Concerto. Outstanding recording. One can perfectly appreciate the sonorous tone of the Cello, the phrasing, the orchestra intonation, the sound is so great...WOW! The cellist is so skillfully, his expressed emotional sensitivity reminds me of Du Pre. This cello concerto is a monumental work for the orchestra, conductor and the soloist, and they blend in a resplendent beautiful melody.

Don't give credit to the conductor. It's the players that perform this great music. I'm tired of conductors and their getting credit for basically waving and pointing. We don't really need them as much as people think.
Beatifull , indeed !!! Bravo , mr. Truls Mork !!! Thanks a lot for this version !!!!
Thank you for posting this wonderful performance. It is my favorite of all of the versions available on youtube and the historic nature of this performance makes it even more poignant. Favorite part for me is the amazing interplay between Mork and the concertmistress at 38:50 onward, wow! This orchestra really impresses me, beautiful playing and ensemble, love the oboe, clarinet, bassoon players too.
Amazing recording!
This is a full symphony with a cello solo. Excellent work by the orchestra, especially oboes and horns.

Interesting Dominik, why that one part. Surely the 10 minutes before 21:04 were more difficult for the soloist and 22:30 as well. Or 32:15? or 35:10. I'm very interested. Thanks.

In this case i was referring to the violins at 21:04 as a response to +LatinGameplay. Took some rehearsal time to get this part perfected. For the solo cello almost the whole concerto is more difficult on a technical level

Norway, Greig notwithstanding, is not a country that you would naturally associate with the finest classical music. How lucky, then, that such a small country has two of the world's finest concert soloists in Truls Mork and Vilde Frang. If anyone is in doubt about Morks' abilities, listen to the opening phrases of the second movement without a tear springing in your eye.

I have never heard, nor can I imagine, a better version than this. And the filming is very sensitive to the power of the music.
The cello/violin duet in third movement is divine. I bet she didn't expect him to give her a run for her money. He's in total joyous communication with her. This entire performance is stunning on all levels. What a truly great cellist and fantastic orchestra. My only criticism is that he plays numerous parts of the first movement way too slow and self-indulgent. Thanks for posting.

muy bueno!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stupendo

This performance has ruined me. I have tried to listen to so many others since, even my worn out "definitive" record of Rostropovich, but I keep wishing I were listening to this instead. Few performances have ever matched the emotional stranglehold this has on me.
