That Cannonball Run II sleeve looks to be in really good shape. Looking forward to the watch party for it in July 👍

Blinking hell! Spectrum. The budget label that PolyGram dished out in the late 1980s. Spectrum was the next level up from Channel 5 video that PolyGram put out as a mid-range sell-thru title. I think both companies, The Video Collection and Channel 5, had the largest stake in the UK retail sector. Warner Home Video and many of the major distributors lagged behind in 1986. It took both Warner and CIC two years to effectively bolster the market for retail with back cat titles. PolyGram and VCI made significant inroads into the retail sector with mid-budget titles. I do remember Channel 5 releasing Cannonball Run 2 in 1986 as part of that first slot of retail titles. Then, in 1987, CBS/Fox Video released Cannonball Run for the first time with a silver sleeve for retail.

@VideoTasties There were loads of Spectrum titles released. Many re-issues coupled with a scattering of new releases from the back cat of PolyGram. I had quite a few Channel 5/PolyGram titles back then. You couldn't purchase the rental titles because they cost £50-80 pounds a pop. HMV and Virgin did sell near mint ex-rental titles back then. You'd pay £35-50 for them. That's if you had money to do so.

@@dr.impossibleofcounterpunc1984 The spectrum titles I recall owning were The Producers and The Onion Field. Your comments are always an education Dr.

@terencemiguana Cheers Terence. 🍻 The Onion Field never got a UK blu ray release from Studio Canal. The only time that film got released in the UK via disc was the Momentum/Studio Canal release under the banner of Take One. Momentum seemed to get quite a few Studio Canal titles that have gone unavailable on Blu Ray, yet got released in the US under different licensing agreements. I was just thinking of Black Marble, The Silent Partner, and The Manitou.

@@dr.impossibleofcounterpunc1984 I liked The Onion Field although that Spectrum release of it was rather dark looking and I don't think it was because of the cinematography. Still never seen it on a decent version since. Its due a re-watch. I managed to get King Gore to review The Silent Partner last christmas and he was rightfully impressed with it. Such a tight wee thriller it is. Surprised its never been remade. I guess bank security is a lot more technical now. Here is an obscure gem I wonder if you have seen. The Kitchen Toto. A British movie set during the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya. Only got a VHS release once by Cannon via WB but would love for that to get a decent blu-ray.

Not seen the Directors Cuts of Lethal Weapon movies but I have seen the deleted stuff from the first one. Need to check them out. Wow! they changed it to Harry And The Henderson now. Wonder if thats the same with Howard : A New Breed Of Hero?

I think it was all to do with the usage of the words and direct name change for UK audiences Terence. Have you ever seen George Lucas's Radioland Murders? A massive flop for Lucas back in the 1990s. Strangely enough, Radioland Murders was developed as a screenplay by Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck. The very two who helped Lucas develop Howard. If you want to see another Lucas flop, check this curiousty of a film out! Radioland also directed by Tall Guy director Mel Smith....
