@@ekimp252 Some rail yards sort cars by pushing them to the top of a "hump" and letting them roll down by gravity, where they are switched onto their destination tracks as they roll down. If there's no hump, they'll sometimes push the cars with a locomotive and cut them loose at the end of the push, letting them roll into their destination; this process is called "kicking". Finally, they can flat switch the cars where they are under the control of a locomotive at all times while being shoved into their destination track. Hump sorting or kicking cause a lot more shock to the loads than flat switching, so you'll see cars carrying loads that could be damaged by this shock marked "Do not hump" or "Do not hump or kick."

@@CatCube2 I understand all of that, I was referring more to the particular car. CSXT, right behind the locomotive, I wonder if it's some kind of brake booster or control car.

Watching this almost 3 years later because of the thumbnail, we just had CSX 5101 on the Eastman power for E090 here in Eastern Kentucky, Harlan county and the Loyall railyard on the Cumberland Valley Subdivision. Eastman Chemical is a massive company complex in Kingsport, Tennessee and in order to power the site, they buy CV coal as a direct connection. Usually one 90 car train a week, but they take the loads back in 2 halves of 45 due to the grade and bypassing a requirement for a pusher set or DPU, though both have been used in the past. Usually in a trifecta, the Eastman train will load at the Balkan loadout alongside the CV main, then the ancient NRG loader along the Poorfork Branch out of Loyall, followed by the Creech loadout on the Merna spur, also along the CV main. The CV doesn’t see a lot of traffic, but in the average week usually 2-6 trains, one of which is the Eastman train and another an R615 for Creech, with the other 4 varied between the other loadouts. One specific loadout however, Lynch 3 at the current terminus for the Poorfork Branch, is set to reopen this month and serve 2 trains monthly, so maybe that can get some more trains on the board. Nonetheless, seeing 5101 made me smile and point out “Hey, there’s the recent Eastman Power!” Great video Danny.

13:37 I grew up about a mile from here. My dad and I would come here to watch when we heard the steam engines that NS would bring into town once a year. We rode one year, I was probably 7 or 8 (so sometime around 1988). The last time I went through the boxes in the attic I still had the stamped tickets. Also, specific to that store there use to be a large woodpecker sign on top. The trains would stop and get a coke on their way out.

It definitely keeps things interesting. Meanwhile on BNSF, the real treat is finding an early GS e-bell, since they've all but removed all their mech bells

Nice. Q032 rolls right by me. Nice to see it get under way from origin. Great narrating of the video as well. Q032 also crosses Edgewood Road here in Yardley PA

Great to see you up here Danny. As a Realtor here in NE Florida, I get to drive through so many of these crossings regularly...can honestly say I've taken some detours from some main roads to purposely hit some of these crossings. As usual, well done.

Danny, another great and informative video. This is exactly what is missing in most of the train videos on KZread; the narrative explaining the where and why of what we are seeing. I had no idea that A-B was doing this with their wastewater. What a great idea ! And so ecological they should advertise it - would be great PR. Thanks for sharing.
