Dutchware Gear Chameleon Hammock

Спорт

The Dutchware Gear Chameleon Hammock has been a highly anticipated new addition to the Dutch Hammock lineup. I find it to be a great addition, answering a lot of the concerns I raised in my Hammock Evolution video. No longer does a hammock newbie need to guess on their lay direction to get into a top of the line hammock with an integrated bug net and top cover. This hammock is swappable between lay sides, and lay directions. The zippered bugnet and top cover are reversible, allowing head left, or head right lay directions with one hammock and one bugnet/top cover.
Check out more details for this hammock on:

    Love your videos, can really see the value of the design features and how to use them. All the setup flexibility is great. I will be using it in many different situations at work overnight sleeper, to bush, beach and stay overs at friends. Really need those variable sleep positions and top cover flexibility with my locations varying tropical hot/eaten alive by bugs to to windy and wet. Awesome a solution has been found.

    Hey Mark, tx for the vid. Just finished watching it again for the 2nd time. I have one coming tomorrow along with an econo hammock gear underquilt and a warbonnet minifly. My ridgerunner just isn't cutting it for me. I've been sleeping in a an 11' Amazon hammock the last few weeks to see what I think of gathered end hammocks. Gotta say, they are far better. Interesting that some people say bridge hammocks are better for side sleepers. That's why I purchased the rr last fall sight unseen. Def not in my case. Gatyhered ends are also far more stable, which goes a long ways when you are trying to move around in the middle of the night. Better for lounging too!

    Help. I've been hammock camping for the past 2 years. I've got an Enlightened under quilt, an Enlightened top quilt, an eno bug net, and a Grand Trunk double hammock. I'm wanting to get into a hammock with out the triple stitching inside the hammock. I think you know what I mean. The Grand Trunk clams to have been 10 ft. but turns out to be about 9'. I want a camping hammock that is either 11' or 12' that will be worth the price. I'm 5' 6" and like to sleep on my side. I seem to fall right to sleep on my side. I need some suggestions. I want to stay light. My pack is 10 lbs. now and I want to keep that weight or lighter.

    Thank you for your quick reply. Did you try the 1.0? How functional will my under quilt be with this hammock? I've been watching your videos a lot lately and find them very informative. Camping is a very good stress reliever for me. Even though it's suppose to rain and get down in the 30's, I'm considering going tonight.

    I switched some years ago and I prefer hammocks by a wide margin. WAY more comfortable - I sleep much better and hurt less. No dealing with rocks/roots/uneven ground where I find myself sliding down throughout the night. I stay warmer. When I wake up I'm not looking at nylon, I can look out from my hammock and see the nature I'm in. Better for lounging. I did a 10 day 100 mile hike last year and slept in my friend's tent one night towards the end and confirmed how much I prefer hammocks. Takes a little fiddling to dial in your preferred setup but so worth it.

    Phoenix 07, Saw you replied to my message asking what I thought about the difference between the WBBB XLC and Chameleon. I personally love my Warbonnet and wouldn't trade it for a different hammock, and I have looked at a LOT of hammocks. This is the closest one I have found to everything the Warbonnet has. Such as switchable bug net/winter top; however, I think I will stick with my Warbonnet. I like the option of a double layer for protection against biting insects. I too have an under quilt, but it is a short one that doesn't cover all of my body. The Warbonnet XLC is also wider, 132″x 63″ vs 132" x 58", so I would think it would have a flatter lay. I too am 6' 240lb and the XLC is perfect. Having said all that, I will still probably end up buying one of these after I finish on the AT this year and try it out only because of the weight. The only thing that appeals to me over the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC.

    I own the RR and I can tell you gathered end hammocks are better for side sleepers. I don' tknow how that rumor about bridge hammocks got started. I can't even sleep on my side in the RR without a pad in the pad sleeve. It contorts my body in a weird way otherwise. Squishes my arm too. RR is reall tippy also.

    Do you really need the tieouts though? Like you said, it's the cut of the covers that restrict/direct your lay and the tieouts emphasise that, but they don't make that lay.

    I don't see the point of the foot/head side reversible. It's just a matter of position to inverse the side without moving the bungie cords. It's not like this hammock have a one-side zipper only on the bugnet or top cover.

  • @xavierdeville9885

    @xavierdeville9885

    To be more precise, because english is not my native: if you have a right head left foot hammock with two sides zipper, you only need to turn your hammock at 180 degrees and you have a left head right foot hammock. Or just enter by the other side. It's only useful for one side zipper hammock, like my Hennessy hammock. Don't misunderstand me, I like this Chameleon and I will buy it just because it's very modular with bugnet, top cover, underquilt, etc... ;)

  • @SpiguyverBackpacking1

    The difference is you don't need to worry about which side you put where, if you want the left to be the head end, you don't have to make sure you place that one on the left. Hard to put into words what I'm trying to say as well. Lol
