You Guys missed the most obvious : a single bed in Dutch is a ledikant.....try that in English!.
@ThisIsTheBestAnime
2 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've never heard someone describe a single bed as a ledikant. My first intuition for pronouncing ledikant from an English perspective would be "leddai can't", not lady cunt. I guess if you heard someone pronounce it in Dutch, it would be closer. I don't often feel a need to describe a bed in such specific terms though, so maybe it's not such an obvious word to find.
I missed "ja hoor!" and "nee hoor"😂

I was very uncomfortable with kunt for a long time as it is close to about the worst swear word in english. I would not practice phrases with kunt around my elderly Mum.

If you pronounce it properly there's a clear distinction
@ThisIsTheBestAnime

Kind of ironic that kunt is only used when you're trying to be polite. It's "Kunt u dat doen?" if you're politely addressing someone, but "Kan je dat doen?" if you're doing so informally.
En dit soort videos zijn echt leukkkk !! Heel dit acc trouwens
Ledikant sounds funny for an English speaker, and my husband is a 'vakman' there are a few more like that.
What about “vaart”. De boot vaart. In English in sounds like the boat is farting

1:01 I’m so glad we aren’t the only country with a word for that
In tegenstelling tot wat ik dacht, dat Nederlands een oude taal is... is het Nederlands veel nieuwer. En we hebben allerlei woorden die ergens in het buitenland "genitaliën" betekenen (als een mama appelsap) in onze taal opgenomen als onschuldige woorden.
I don't know if OUR words are the problem or theirs.
"ja hoor" sounds like an insult -- just means "yes, of course"

Literally every time I hear a Dutch person say kijk I clam up. In English the word that sounds the same is an offensive term for Jewish people.

Some people cringe when watching American Disneymovies that start with the director screaming CUT (cunt) across the set. I mean...cursewords around kids are fine to a certain extend, but screaming cunt is not how to start a movie.

I once wrote a little poem, with offensive terms. There's about 7 offensive (well...I mean, not that we care in general, in the Netherlands) terms in there. Tearing across a motorway, An actor did an amazing trick, ‘Cut cut cut!’, the director shouted ‘You’re not the actor that I’d pick.’ ‘I don’t care’, said the driver, ‘because I’ “have a wife, who looks like Kate Winslet, You might not rate my stunts so well, But lul, I couldn’t care less about that.

@Widdekuu91

@@RedBanana_ I have the same with knickers in English. It's sad though, that we're getting scared about normal words, when ofcourse there's no intention to offend behind it. I heard a Rotterdam girl had said; 'Kijk!' when she walked past the Amsterdam Anne Frank house and a foreign woman (I understood American) figured she must mean Anne Frank and started scolding her about Jewish History and why she should show more respect, etc. She was then explained that the girl hadn't said 'Kike', but just 'Kijk' which is 'Look!'

precies! is aangepast
veel woorden zullen helemaal niet zo slecht klinken als ze de uitspraak goed hebben. het woord "vaak" klinkt namelijk helemaal niet als "fuck" toch eens de "a" of "aa" eens beter uitspeken. het woord is immers "vaak" en niet "vak" net als "provocatie". zelfde verhaal.
@m.wolters9576
4 жыл бұрын
Het woord 'vaak' klinkt in Nederlandse oren niet als 'fuck' of 'vak', maar in sommige buitenlandse oren wel. Namelijk als in die talen de lange aa-klank niet bestaat. Dan horen de sprekers ervan geen onderscheid tussen die korte a en de lange aa. Dit verschil is altijd weer goed voor veel gelach bij cursisten Nederlands als tweede taal:-)
