+My dream Well if we're talking not-fluent-language, then I speak about 8. Fluent however, is 3. Fluent for me is when you stop stuttering when ordering a sandwich with several toppings (no "euh...with the.eh- eh- eh- ehhhh- lettuce and the eh-eh-eh-what's it called, ehh..ehh..pickles..and-" ) and are able to direct strangers across town with 'left right, left at church, right at supermarket, trainstation etc.'-directions. If that goes perfectly smooth, and you can answer a couple of basic questions, I think you can say you're fluent. However, I personally put the bar higher for myself. I say fluent when I can ramble on about things, without having to stop and search for the words.

Here's one english sentence you can translate to C#: Enlish: "Move the bitwise logical or result of 22 and 44 to some temporary place. Store it as a integer please!" C#: "int x = 22 | 44;" How are they similar?

When he spoke Vietnamese, he tried to avoid answering to questions and instead only go for his separate stories in Vietnamese like it was pre-programmed. I think he is skillful either way but I just think that a lot of stuff he learnt was just preprogrammed and cannot adapt on the fly so well if they one he talks to switch the subjects to their likings...

Thats not a reality, thats a STEP in learning a language, he used to do the same with my language “spanish” and now he got waaaaaay better... first you learn a bunch of expressions then you go and have conversations to lose the fear of using the language and once that fear is over you start to absorb everything that the other person says which automatically starts to be on your vocabulary, for me this happened with bulgarian, english and mandarin so its absolutely normal

@@acdev972, what he did was very similar in that sense that he repeated exactly what he learnt by heart, a specific phrase - only. If somebpdy asked him a tricky question on the spot, then he would have a problem to answer since that was not what he learnt. He is not adaptable to the language. You can clearly see him dodging those tricky questions during Vietnamese part and instead went on with what he learnt like what a parrot would have done. You seem to have problem to understand this principle. I think Im talking to a wall right now.

I think it's important to note that he doesn't say that he's FLUENT in all these languages, he just speaks a bit of each. For example, I speak Japanese, Okinawan Hougen, and English fluently. When I say fluent I mean I can understand an advanced amount of the language, and if I don't understand a word or phrase, I can have it explained to me in that language without having to revert back to my native tongue. But I do speak conversationally in Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, and Korean. So if I post a video of me speaking all the languages I know, 4 out of 7 are going to be with shaky grammar and pretty bad.

There are different kinds of Latin, guys. There is the more common "Roman-Catholic Latin" nowadays, which is actually spoken, but mostly in the Vatican as a form of tradition. There is also "Roman Latin" which has mostly made up rules, but still standardized in textbooks that are taught in schools that still have the language as a class. The language is only "dead" because the population that feasibly speaks it consistently is less than any other language, but it's still a language that people can speak.

It is pretty cool that you can find people from everywhere in your country, in my country (Colombia) is not very common, but the city where Im from (Cartagena) is very touristic and there you find people from the whole word.

Amazing that you are able to speak so many languages wow! Even tho it's quite basic in some of them, it's still amazing! I'm only able to have conversations in Danish (first language), English, Korean and German - and the last two I'm still struggling haha. An advice I would give is to study the dialect and the speed of the languages you can speak so far. Your way of speaking is very similar when you talk in the different languages - you don't really change. Obviously I don't understand all the languages but I could especially see it with the Korean and Danish part :-)). If you nail that you'll sound much more fluent! Really cool tho!!

Thanks for your comment and advice. And yes, I have a basic level in most of the languages which I speak. Danish is really hard language and unfortunately there aren't a lot of Danish tourists. I have the same problem with Japanese. I will try to improve my accent in all languages. I'm meeting al lot of tourists every day, so I have great possibilities to work on my accent, grammar and knowledge of vocabulary. Good luck with the languages wich you are learning! Cheers

Hi I'm an Indonesian trilingual and wow man 18 languages that's impressive. I obviously dont understand all 18 except for English, Indonesian and Chinese. Here's what little advice I can offer you: For your Chinese, try to pay more attention to your shengdiao (intonations) as its sometimes hard to distinguish what you are saying (many chinese words sound similar and I think you know that). I recommend you to watch more chinese movies/videos and pay attention to the way they speak. They tend to speak fast but it is perfectly alright to slow down. For your Bahasa Indonesia on the other hand, try to speak in a different accent like what @frejamøller said and I also recommend reading books/online articles in Indonesian, so as to improve the way you structure your sentences and your vocabulary. You are definitely on track (atleast in learning Indonesian and Chinese). Keep up the awesome work!

Wouter Corduwener Hey you! :-). Danish is indeed a language that's very hard to learn - especially the pronunciation as you said in the video. Actually I'm studying at university right now and one of the things I'm studying is Danish as a second language, so how to teach Danish to others. I really admire people learning Danish after starting at university haha! You are truly great! Keep up the good work!

As long as the message is sent and he's able to communicate with people in different languages, who gives a shit about his pronunciation? I mean, aren't languages supposed be tools of communication? P.S. I'm a piece of shit who speaks multiple languages, most of them really badly, hence my biased opinion which serves no bigger purpose than to make me feel less bad about myself.

You're a huge inspiration to me Wouter, whenever I watch your videos it makes me want to be able to speak as many languages as you with such amazing ability ! I am 17 and I speak English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and a little bit of Hindi, I know little tads and bits of other languages too. I'm currently studying Chinese in college but I also study other languages for fun, especially Hindi. I will study and learn over time and eventually speak as many languages as you do. I love learning these languages because of the culture, I dream of one day travelling the world and being able to make friends wherever I go. You're super awesome Wouter, maybe we can be friends too ! :D
