No the belt Tyrus had on Gutfeld before he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship was the NWA Television Championship. He now brings the World Heavyweight strap on there. I don't think he's too old at all. Tim Storm was older than Tyrus when he had it.

This probably has been mentioned already, but "Gutfeld" is on Fox News Channel, not Fox Nation (although I suppose it could be running there too, I don't know), and prior to getting the NWA World title Tyrus appeared on Fox News programming with the NWA World Television title, the same belt appearance-wise that was on Crockett's TV in the 1980s.

Jack Swagger's reign as World Heavyweight Champion in WWE was questionable.

He was getting a serious revival with the Real American gimmick with Dutch as his manager as Zeb Colter, and if they weren't planning on having Ziggler cash in the night after Mania in 2013, Swagger beating Del Rio would've made for a FAR better world title run than he had in 2010.

It's great publicity for the NWA -- he had the TV title on always on Gutfeld. Now it's the Heavyweight, but he'd been the TV champion for a very long time.

For better or worse, Tyrus as champ is giving Corgan’s NWA some chatter. Him contributing to a show that is bigger than AEW’s monthly tv audience doesn’t hurt in the short term.

I watched Dutch a lot when he was in Memphis. When he said he cut out some moves from his set I honestly couldn't think of any moves.

When Tyrus won the title, I wasn't sure what to think..........but he's doing better than I expected, and I give him credit for hitting the gym. It's still early, but he's putting effort into this run.

He is on the #1 late night talk show on TV and that will bring eye balls to the title and the NWA. This belt will get more exposure then it has in decades in the modern era and will attract more eye balls from all his fans on the late night show that may now tune in to watch is title reign. He is older but they can make it work WWE has had a few part time champions over the years a few who at the time was the face of the company and it worked out. Recently Reigns basically took 3 months off and it did not affect him if anything made him a more dominant champ because when he did wrestle it would be against legends and he would get the win beating guys who don't lose often like Brock or Cena, Randy Orton & Edge. The quality of the opponent holds more weight then defending the title weekly against weaker opponents or squash matches. I hope Tyrus can help bring back credibility to that title and the NWA with the exposure it will bring. 101 men have held that title since it's inception and most of those legends are now Hall Of Famers and house hold names.

I would rather be in UFC than have to take all those professional wrestling bumps.

This is how irrelevant the NWA world title has become. Dutch Mantell doesn't know much about what's going with it. Very tragic, and the culmination of years of bad decisions by the NWA.

This is how the NWA World title has been since '94 when Candido won the thing. Other than the couple years the title was being used by TNA the title has been insignificant. Aldis elevated the title for sure. But not enough for it to have ever made any difference.

Im old and I worked in the business, the issue is the NWA was not 1 place in its heyday. It was a loose promoters' alliance with 1 touring champion. It was the biggest wrestling group in the world. It was needed then, because tv was not national.

I don’t really have a problem with this. However, to be honest, I don’t think a lot of people care about who holds the NWA world championship belt these days. If this was to get eyes on the product then Me Corgan needs to rethink his strategy. Maybe re-sign Nick Aldis.

I like Tyrus, but I don't think he's the guy NWA should have given the World Title. He's nearly 50, his knees are in bad shape, he's immobile, he has trouble climbing the ring steps. Hopefully, he's a place holder until they get a babyface who is younger, and can work.

Great for fox but him being champion won’t help nwa they will still draw 30 to 40 fans a show on nwa tv.

Nwa is a zombie promotion. It has been for 30 years. Nwa competes with mlw to see who can draw the fewest fans to their events. Even Impact can draw 100 people to their events, sometimes.

Neither Murdoch or Aldis are guys that are going attract much attention. Tyrus has the Gutfield connection, that's a highly rated show. So there's more people that have seen for Tyrus for 5 minutes, than have seen Aldis & Murdoch for 5 years. At any rate the NWA is still the NWA & it's just not overly relevant in 2022.

And how many of those people who only knew Tyrus from Gutfeld actually tuned in to NWA or bought a ticket or PPV? None of them did and look at the company now.

I think more people watching wrestling would cross over to see Tyrus on other media than the other way around. But seeing that belt on TV is free promo. NWA needs any kind of promo.

I stopped watching NWA because it was confusing and the matches were poorly booked. So many wrestlers that NWA handles poorly that are awesome to watch in other promotions. I don't like the fact they have multiple championships but seldom title defenses on their show. When I saw Tyrus was champion I knew I was done, I personally find him boring in the ring.

Billy Corgan said he wanted his champions to be big guys who look like they could beat people up for real....well, Billy you keep doing that if you want to but people are going to watch champions who are entertaining and that's why NWA draws 30 people to their PPVs.

i doubt that's the only reason. You need a big star, the national tv audience and casual fan interest. All these groups including WWEv are fighting over a smaller piece of the audience. Without all those ingredients, you see WWE and AEW bringing in 60 year old stars for ppv, because they cant draw more eyes with their own roster. There has never been a hotter angle than the original nWo, because it had stars, and more importantly it seemed real. It grabbed across generations of fans. Its almost the same thing that happened in Japan. Without major stars, you lose the casual fans, then the tv, then the sponsors, hence the smart crowd only watches.

Eh, or perhaps it's a smart marketing move to have him as champion. Ric flair is conservative, Steve Austin is conservative, The Undertaker is conservative, Shawn Michaels is conservative, HHH is on the right, the list goes on and on...Does this now mean you dislike them because they disagree with you politically? CM Punk is on the left, yet I think his work is great..

Yeah as a old school republican(no trump bullshit) I can very much say Tyrus is a joke on Fox News(which is all fake conservatives) nobody looks at George sitting on the couch yucking it up with Greg and takes him seriously. He was a joke to begin with and the belt is just another little hat on top of another.

it’s a shame how quickly Billy Corgan went of the rails with the NWA! the Alwayz Ready and the 74th Anniversary PPV’s were actually outstanding (This re-booted NWA is a mix of Memphis, SMW and ECW it feels very organic but, still familiar! The entire Nick Aldis fall out and putting the belt on Tyrus of all the people is a really bad booking choice! Trevor Murdoch, Thom Latimer, or Matt Cardona all much better picks imo

Gutfeld is on Fox News Dutch, don't lie you know exactly what network it is on and it is nowhere close to being the top late night show. Would be nice if you would keep your political views to yourself

I think Tyrus as NWA champion is fantastic and has really proven that he was the right choice. As Dutch just mentioned Tyrus is on the number one late night television show in the country so him constantly wearing the NWA title at least gets them some attention. Also, we have seen by all the losers crying online that never, ever spoke about the NWA are now talking about. The old phrase, "it doesn't matter what you say about me, just spell my name right" applies here. The NWA has gotten more attention by the twitter and reddit mob who never watched the NWA anyway then it would have if they kept it on Murdoch.
