The thing is HHH should have dropped the title more to newcomers than already established stars. He was a great heel that you’d always want to see get his tail kicked but he did seem like the champ that never went away. I see Hunter tried to carry himself like Flair but he lacked charisma as a heel. He was boring. As a baby face (which folks say that’s how he is in real life) he was hilarious and cutting edge.

Moore's point isn't "give them something they'll hate as a challenge to their loyalty", it's "give them something they haven't considered, so they find something new they can go on to like". It's ironically what Dutch said as well, in his strippers example, give the audience a wide variety of characters and gimnicks they can embrace or relate to. I used to love WWE but cannot stand it now. Why? 1. The ridiculous obligatory intro to the show, somebody comes out and tries to remember all the scripted words to a dumb monologue. On every show... RAW or Smackdown no difference. And invariably anywhere from 1 to 5 characters interrupt and run out to give their rehearsed scripted bullshit, all intended to excite us enough to buy tickets to XXXX Pay-Per-View that is coming up. 2. The stupid characters! All scripted! All gimmicks conceived by 'talent'! Constume part of the gimmick all scripted, artificial! 3. They promote the hell out of the next supposed great talent that is coming in for months before the debut, and it's like we're expected to believe that this is the next Harley Race, Bruno Sammartino etc... 4. This so-called new great talent then goes undefeated! For months until A) WWE realizes the gimmick doesn't work or B) It's working too well and might undermine HHH-Cena-Stephanie etc... in either case they have to deep 6 this latest waste of time and promos and it's onto the next schmuck. 5. And Eg: Bray Wyatt... look at all the stupid character and gimmick changes they did with that guy trying to interest the fans. I'm pretty damn sure that if Bray Wyatt (his real name-Wyndham Rotunda) had been allowed to dress-speak-wrestle without script, he'd'a been pretty darn good! They have got to get back to the day when a wrestler could buy their own damn costume, use whatever name they choose, and drop the idiotic gimmicks and scripted dialogue. We need originality!!

What he said about characters is so true. I started watching wrestling (Raw & Nitro) in 1997 & there was so many unique individuals. They weren’t just average Joes’ going through the moves every week. The top faces were over as fuck & the heels were horrible sons of bitches in all the right ways. One storyline could be dark as fuck & on the same show another storyline could have you howling with laughter. But it was the characters at the heart of it all. Throughout the late 90s/early 00s words can’t describe how important those 2 hours were on a Monday night to a whole generation. I stopped watching around late 04/early 05 as I thought it was getting stale. I dropped back into Smackdown in 07/08 as I got told it was pretty good and it was. I stopped watching completely in late 08. I’ve seen clips of WWE since then & just through the clips I can see what a woke, boring shit show the whole thing has become. It’s the get-along gang in that locker room (besides Brock Lesnar). Taker was 💯when he said it was soft. No one has the balls to go and push the envelope with their characters and get the audience to stand up in amazement as Dutch says. It’s a sad state but I hope Triple H gets to make the necessary changes.

WWE definitely sucks and has for years. The Attitude Era, and the Ruthless Era made me want to watch WWE. The PG era that we're under is barely entertaining. That's why I like AEW. Much more entertaining. No comedy, or goofy long winded promos. Always a possibility of a heel/ face turn. The fact that the heel almost always wins, makes me root more for the face, and it generates anticipation that the "good guy" could possibly win, but usually gets jumped on by a group.

Dutch is probably the last wrestler I expected to refer to Alan Moore. I also think he is missing the context of what Moore was saying. Moore was talking about comic publishers and creators feeding the readers the same thing, again and again, until they are numbed to it and either leave or move on inertia. Moore was saying you have to shake them up, from time to time, of which he was a master.

Roddy Piper said it best. He used to say he listened to the fans on the way to the ring to determine what he was going to do. JBL once mentioned that Eddie Guererro used to do something similar. There isn't this anymore, WWE is Hollywood meaning it sucks now. Its just a reboot of what wrestling was when it was good but without the guys and gals who made it good.

It sucks so badly now because Vince only hires KIDS on roids. So never again will you get to enjoy a dusty Rhodes or milk Foley or other larger wrestlers. Now he only shoves roided up children on the show who all try to act EXACTLY alike. When they aren't boring us with roid kids they're making us laugh with all the horrible women's wrestling. Nothing funnier then watching a girl try to use the ropes. When they come off the ropes they don't even move because they don't weigh enough. Haha. When a match would come on I would use that as an opportunity to go tk a piss or channel surf always forgetting to change it back. I stopped watching a few years ago because its so bad now. AEW is just as bad...even worse now. R.I.P. WWE

Well, Dutch, Alan Moore was talking about ART, not mere entertainment. True art is there to break the trance and offer a unique perspective. That ain't wrestling.

Dutch isn't wrong, but just like everybody else, he doesn't have any answers on how these lessons can be applied in today's wrestling world. The territories are dead. Kayfabe is dead. Tell me one thing you would do to make wrestling better without trying to turn back the clock, which is the laziest answer.
