I'm from the United States and I love your videos! I really like your humor too. Sometimes in elementary school we made Valentine's Day cards we could give each other. They were often anonymous. I don't think we usually do that when we get older. I can't wait until I can visit the Nederlands. Keep up the great work!

The teacher missed the theme about Friend Zone in Dutch, LOL.

In US, for valentines day as kids, you are supposed to bring a card for everyone in your class and you write your name and theirs on it. As you get older, you dont have to bring cards anymore, so most people dont bring any or maybe just one for their closest friends. You would still give it directly to that person though. As an adult, the only people who do something are either together in a relationship or looking for one. Hope this makes sense :) -Sophie

I think "versieren" is pretty much like "pursuing" or "courting" someone, which normally ends up postively. Great videos you have! Zo behulpzaam! Ik ben nu bezig met Nederlands taal te leren.

Devin J. Bowden I believe that goes with the person not with someone's nationality. Not all men cheat an definitely not all the the ones that have "second love" in their dictionary! 😊

In the US, people leave anonymous love notes and we say that they are from a 'secret admirer'. But that is really only for shy people, like in Holland. Otherwise, everyone gives little notes and candies to everyone who is a friend, not just someone they love.

I'll get to practicing these I suppose! Recieved a valentine's card from my dutch boyfriend today in the mail, and saturday I'll be spending on Skype with him so I suppose I could try and pronounce some of these things and see if he can tell what I'm trying to say x) It's great that you explain what you mean more than just the literal translation, it gives a much better idea of the meaning :)

In Scotland we usually send cards to our girlfriend/boyfriend with question marks or x's where your name would be. They basically have to work out the name

I've never heard of writing an anonymous Valentine note! sounds very sweet.

how about versieren - adorating? About cards - in Poland it's common when you are a kid and yes, sometimes we made it anonymously (but not so often)

In the US, it was common when I was a young for school children to send anonymous Valentine's or, as someone else here said, from a " secret admirer". But beyond high school, it would be unusual to do this. And often among school mates, it was easy to figure out (and the point was to have the object of your affections guess that it was you, and be pleased!)

I'm from the UK and as an adult I only send/receive them when in a relationship. Usually if you're shy in school or a youngster you might send a valentines day card anonymously ^_^ Also I think versieren may translate to ''woo-ing'' someone. :D

Here in Brazil we do send love cards, but here Valentijnsdag isn't in honor of Sint Valentijn, It's just a day of people in love or dating. But in June we've a bunch of Holidays called "Festas Juninas"(June's Party Days, literally), in what we send letters to someone we want to date, called "Correio Elegante"(Literally Snob Post). In Ukraine we send also valentine's cards anonymously. At least since 1990 when I went in school. In Soviet Union I don't think it was that common.

Here in Latvia we did send valentines cards anonymously in classes 1-4, right now in class 9, it's kind of interesting, we can buy a musical performence for a girl that the schoolboys from the 12 class play.

I think to move to netherlands without knowing the language but surely I think that yes of course I would be able to understand with those european people in english german or french because besides that I know these 3 languages more my native language that is spanish I also know to speak italian

+Josh Edwards Yes, officially there is no significant difference. You can compare it to American and British English. Both are more or less the same but with a different sound, and than you have the different regional dialects like in every country. But if you learn standard Dutch and don't use specific dialect words, even with a 'Belgian' or 'Dutch' accent everyone in both countries will understand you and you can read books and newspapers from both as well.

+sebastian alegria Hi Sebastian. My opinion: you need to study the language where it is spoken. If you want to learn English, then go to England. If you want to study Dutch, then come to the Netherlands. Most people in the Netherlands do speak English, but not always and not perfectly. So better to visit an English-speaking country if learning the language is the purpose. But if it is not about learning English - then it is good to know that Dutch universities have many programs that are taught in English. And as a place to study, the Netherlands is just great.

Lmmfao! Hi Bart! Yes! I have a twin flame that speaks Dutch and im in love with him lol honestly here in America Im sorry but i do not like how a lot of American guys that i have met here have thrown my cards away so i stopped writing them. I have nothing against American men. Im just not interested in being in a conditioned relationships. Most of my Own experience with American men. The ones i met mostly were quick for sex ( a huge turn off for me). Ive been cheated on. Ive even met some that think the woman should be at home while they work.etc. some women like that here but not me. My personal idea of a date is walking in nature, making a special meal with my date ( if they like it), going to music festivals or sitting home doing art and music abd learning and teaching art and music with my date. I was then again raised european here in America so i have mannors and morals. I don't believe in cheating or liars or ones who dont let me be Myself or smother me. I believe in unconditional love with a person. Plus when i met my dutch twin from Belgium, im sorry he stoled my heart. He didn't make me feel like a supermodel. He didnt care about my looks and he didn't seem disloyal upon 1st meeting him. He was kind and polite. He was caring and concerned about me while he worked. He would check on me. He was a sweetie. Then i find out later he's my twin flame! Wow! Long story but yup. I want to learn Dutch not only just for myself but i want to be able to talk to him in dutch. He has everything i value in a man. I love it! Another thing i like on dates is learning about the date and telling them about myself. And i love that me and him are very private on our love life.

You forgot another important one. "Ga je mee brommers kieken" It's a typical way of saying to someone. Hey, let's go outside and exchange some bodily fluids.
