30th was Queensday. It was to celebrate the queen. But now we have a king, so we don't celebrate our queen anymore (no matter how lovely and beautiful she is) The reason for that isn't because a queen is less than a kind, but because our current queen is not a descendant of Willem of Orange.

I think it's a great party for all ages with loads of free entertainment but also, while it's about the dutch there is no resistance at all to foreigners joining in and wearing orange to or waving a little flag. The more the merrier.

I’m feeling like this comment section is the perfect reflection of the Netherlands. Nearly every comment is English but if you look at the names, it’s clear they’re nearly all dutch. I've been to kings and queens days in different citys here and it ROCKS! a sea of orange patriosm everywhere.

When Beatrix was still Queen, we celebrated Queensday, and we celebrated it on the birthday of her mother, Queen Juliana !!! In 2006 the band Queen made a surprise visit to Amsterdam's festivities and played a small consert there.. Queen ( the band ) on Queens Day

and im sitting at home here during king's day 2019 watching this girl saying it's the best party ever.

If you think Koningsdag is a crazy party, try to celebrate Carnaval in Limburg and Noord-Brabant (the dutch provinces in the south)

For the ones interested but not in the know. The popularity of the color Orange comes from the origional king of the countrey being called "of Orange" for his last name.

From Radio Nederland Siaran Indonesia, I have heard the term "Koninginedag" for many years, but never "Koningsdag". Only in 2022, I start to hear the latter.

I went to Amsterdam for Kingsday 2015, had a great time. With all that was going on, it felt a bit like Glastonbury festival being held in Amsterdam for the day. lots of parties going on, street entertainment/food etc. I need to come over again for 2021....

We didn't get a king from 'Oranje-Nassau' until 1815 (thanks Brits....) but our national color was already orange since 1600 (Willem van Oranje was NOT a king). Our first king was Napoleon's brother who was installed here in 1806.
