I never understood why this product went out of business ... Great Shakes were really great. I used to have them every day for breakfast, I was practically addicted as a little kid. I wonder if they used some kind of nasty chemical or if it was toxic, or too expensive. They were really great, and the shaker container worked for other stuff too like Carnation Instant Breakfast or Nestle's Quik. But the best were the Chocolate and Chocolate Malt flavors of Great Shakes itself. They were awesome, and they just disappeared one day and we could not get them anymore.

I can still taste the vanilla Great Shakes. I loved them.

I had a record that came as a Great Shakes promo. It had 4 different artists singing including The Box Tops and Aretha Franklin. I liked Great Shakes.

At the same time, Coca-Cola was also doing radio commercials with well-known popular singers and groups.

Forgot Dusty did this jingle, but remembered, upon hearing the fade out. (I was 9 at the time.) This is a reworked version of "I Only Want To Be With You," so Dust SHOULD lead the pack of performers who also covered this for the TV ad. My siblings and I tried the Chocolate, Fudge, and Vanilla flavors, as I recall, back in the days when I could drink milk. It really was "So Creamy,Thick and Dreamy," just as Miss Springfield promised! I remember the shaker, too. The lower part, the cup, had a particular lip to it, and was a chocolate brown. The lid was a lighter, tan color. And the envelopes the shake powder came in were an interesting triangular pouch. VERY groovy '60's design used then!!

I used to drink those every morning ... they were as good as any milk shake. I'll never understand why they disappeared and went out of business?

I remember when they stopped making Great Shakes, or at least stopped selling them in my location I used to use the shaker container to make Instant Breakfast for breakfast before school.

How did the Stones escape this?

They opted to do a Rice Krispies commercial instead! Seriously!!! Look it up!!!!!
