This is a great example for all music journalists/ DJs for how to conduct a successful interview. Do your research, know your subject well, and offer your guests a chance to talk about what is most interesting to them. Terrific interview. Well done!

She was well educated on the topic and asked good questions. I liked it, however did notice that she wouldn't say OK or all right or I see or anything that you would say in a conversation to show understanding and close a topic after the other persons intervention. Also no follow ups from her on things they said, she just stuck to her list of questions. Those things seemed pretty strict and forced to me, I felt the flow was not natural but a race against her clock. Still good information came out.

John's impersonation of Nick min 17:54 is sublime. I love how they can make fun of each other and don't take offense for it. They've been friends for over 40 years and know each other so well enough to do that. They are all so lucky to have one another for 4 decades. Cheers to that!

Great interview- respect what DD are doing now. Should be stated that this is an entirely different band concept than the original 5 (and, presumably, Andy being the catalyst/hindrance) to the point where I'd say these guys have morphed collectively into a "production machine". I can't say this is Duran Duran- that ship has sailed. They have evolved to something else and jumped that shark.

I found the interview mostly interesting. John is very eloquent and I think anyone would enjoy his company. I think The Universe Alone is DD's best song. Ever. In my opinion. I enjoy many different forms of art but why do most come off so pretentious? Is there some "secret book" they share amongst one another? There are moments of that behavior here. Still I am a fan.

I replied below regarding collaborations before I even listened to the interview. Let me clarify. I think collaborations can work, but you must be careful as to why and how you are using them. They should not be used as a crutch or in an effort to boost sales by adding a few flavors of the month to your album. While I think that was the case with Red Carpet Massacre, I'm not entirely convinced it's the case with Paper Gods. That said, I have yet to purchase Paper Gods due to seeing that there were collaborations and my feelings toward Red Carpet Massacre to having such and not caring for several songs because of it. I think it is possible to "stay fresh" by pushing your boundaries as musicians rather than collaborating. Also, finding a producer who understands the band and is willing to push them some can do wonders.

Simon left the studio early? John himself said once the bass tracks were laid down first, he had nothing else to do, so he spent all his time at the bars wherever they were recording while the others finished up. But must say he looks good for all the years. And what about Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan's record, Paper Monsters from years ago? Now its DD Paper Gods? But I guess its OK, they always were in the midst of things, so I guess they can create a cultural commentary.

The facts are AT is gone from DD. He chose to leave for a second time in 2007 and never looked back. They have moved to new material and moved on while AT still has no career without them. What do you want? For them to quit? Remember it's John's band, always has been. He has been back since 2003 after a few years of doing his own thing and finding out how much he wanted to be back with them. Sadly Andy is not a team player. He's so full of himself he thinks he's better off without them. Move on. They have!

I love Duran Duran but let's be honest.. Pretty much everything they've done since Andy left the 2nd time around 2004 has been absolutely awful.. Simon's voice changed and not for the better, there's too much of Nick's influence without any strong guitarist to counter, and Roger's drumming has gotten much slower with age. Also the constant name-dropping and collaborating with artists less talented and half their age is embarrassing.. They need to get into the studio, preferably with Andy back and make an album similar to Seven & Ragged Tiger which was their best album to date (34yrs ago!)

Really?! Duran Duran have adapted to the times without selling out! And they have NOT rested on the laurels of their previous successes. OK, will "Rio" or "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" mean more to me than their newer material? OF COURSE NOT! I attribute that to how old I was and what I was going through at that time. But, I do NOT discount their current effort. I ADORE "Pressure Off" and "Last Night in the City"! I saw them in July of 2016 and was absolutely thrilled and mesmerized by their performance. Simon's voice was awesome! John's bass playing was superb. And Roger's drumming was flawless. Plus, seeing Nile Rodgers play with them for "The Reflex" was a dream come true.

I disagree with some of your points. I found Astronaut rather disappointing even though it was the original 5. All You Need Is Now was probably the best they've sounded in years. I'm mixed on Paper Gods probably due to the over collaborations. I do agree that they need to have strong full time guitarist and put the brakes on all the collaborations. Their first 3 albums were done without the current flavours of the month chiming in - I mean it would have been unheard of to have Madonna or U2 or Michael Jackson jumping in on say 'New Moon on Monday' or ' New Religion' or 'The Reflex'. Now, you could argue that their collaborations started with Seven and The Ragged Tiger (Nile Rodgers was all over that) however I think that Niles Rodgers was the band's George Martin. Niles Rodgers could get the best out of the band, much like George Martin got the best out of the Beatles.

Uh... Simon doesn't sound that much different at all. He sings the songs the same live (or better) than he did in the mid - late 80s, which is remarkable for a singer with such power. As MeBrewMan stated, I'd agree that All You Need Is Now is probably their best in quite some time. They really need to stop with the over reliance on the collabs, and yeah, they need a more restrained Steve Stevens type to fill that guitar role. I honestly don't really know why they don't just go ask Warren to come back. He's a good fit. They could even get a new guy too. I want new material, but I do think its a mistake for them to keep these collabs going, because the songs that heavily rely on that always end up sounding nothing like actual Duran Duran music. They also need to take a look at all the up and coming synth wave artists that they inspired with Seven and the Ragged Tiger especially.

Paper God's is a terrible album one of the worst Duran Duran albums ever need to stop collaborating with other artist and just be Duran Duran

Duran Duran released two good albums..the first two.The right place at the right time. After that Seven and the Ragged tiger was patchy to say the least and apart from one or two moments(ordinary world is one) they have got worse and worse.Le bons voice was always poor and his lyrics pretentious.Compared to their heros Bowie and Roxy their output is fifth rate. They were always less than the sum of there parts but they thought they were great artists due to the early boy band popularity.John taylor talks complete pretentious bollocks here and not for the first time....Sonic architecture! It all sounds so rehearsed..le bon takes a pee and comes out thinking what hes just hummed over a toilet sounds good..They were lucky..looked good for MTV and got swallowed by the rock cliche of cocaine and ego after the second album.Their entire cannon is as empty as the decade that gave them life.

In the world of music good looks or luck never took anyone too far, dear. Since 1978 Duran Duran continues gaining momentum, so have you ever considered the possibility of you being totally unable to recognize brilliant music? Because you definitely seem like you are. See, this band is all about SONIC MAGNIFICENT ARCHITECTURE, therefore, allow me to feel deeply sorry for your obvious deafness. As for your words about Simon's voice and especially about his GREAT, absolutely AMAZING talent as a lyricist... oh LOL!! honestly, I found them hilarious! That's all I have to comment reading your cute delirium of nonsense. Cheers.

I disagree. I think they get better and better as the years go by. They are my favorite band ever. Simon's voice soothes my soul. I hope they continue forever and come out with more and more music. My favorite albums are Big Thing and Liberty and I also love Pop Trash. Each album has its own sound. When I'm at work and listening to that voice, it is like liquid velvet.

I know you wrote this two years ago, but I have to comment on your stupidity. Duran could easily ride the nostalgia wave and play eighties shows forever, but they do not. They are artists. They never asked for the pinup poster boy thing at the beginning...it was forced on them by the label. All they’ve ever cared about is the music and by that, I mean NEW music. They stay current and don’t live in the past. They are consistently awesome in the live show setting. Every new album of theirs has been a good album in some way. I think you are jealous of their success and therefore you seem to have to try to tear them down. You can try all you want, but they’re not going anywhere and I thank whoever is in charge of such things every day for their talent and what they have shared with the fans.

Good gosh is the host 104? Wow is she terrible. Lost track of all the cliches discussed here. You're talking to DD. A giant pop band from the '80's. What in hell is stopping you from asking questions pertaining to their unique position in pop music. Good lord what a waste of time.
