    Spread the word about the show, it really, genuinely helps us grow :) This week’s free giveaway is our most-jam packed puzzle box yet: Houdini’s Cell. Learn how to make (and break) locks, move objects invisibly, and follow the history of Houdini himself in one devilish package. Includes a challenge coin, individually numbered lockpick jackknife, Theory11’s premium Hudson deck of cards and more. We’re giving away a misfit Houdini’s Cell to one random winner of this week’s free giveaway. To enter, just sign up at gimme.scamstuff.com (no purchase necessary, giveaway ends 10/10/2019). Misfit items may include small cosmetic blemishes, but are fully-functional. Congrats to the winners of last week’s Evolution T-shirt giveaway: Tyler Cardwell, Bram Reedijk, and Jonathan Diaz (we will contact you via email within the next two weeks)

    @@clark5184 You can get those at any good 'head shop' it is just a butane torch. My advice, go to a hardware store and get one that is meant for use in a "shop" but this might be to big for pocket use. NEVER buy one marketed for cooking, they are overpriced re-skinned torches from the hardware store with less tip attachments, (for soldering, wood burning, "heat gun" etc incase you dont want a direct/open flame.) And probably a proprietary refueling valve that demands you buy their 'brand' of butane.

    As Deviant showed in one of his videos you can prevent airbubbles in the key by carving a tiny little channel from the tip of the mold, so the trapped air can escape and allow the liquid metal to fill all of the mold. After the cooldown you can cut off the little spike from the channel.

  • @CWGminer
    @CWGminer4 жыл бұрын

    I just did this today, worked like a charm. The most important thing to do before trying your key is to check for any burrs or bits that stick out, and sand/file them off. It's extremely important to remove any and all burrs from the jagged side of the key where the bitting is, because otherwise the key *will* get stuck. Mine got stuck the first time, and I was able to remove it using a peterson mini knife from my lock picking set. I also highly recommend purchasing one of those before trying this, just in case you get your key stuck. Getting it out is super easy, plus the mini knife is an amazing multipurpose bypass and decoding tool.

    If you heat up the mold before pouring in the metal, you’ll get a perfect cast with no flaws. The problem with pouring hot metal into a cold mold is that the metal wants to solidify as soon as it hits the mold in some spots. I use this tip with my castings at home and they come out super clean

    That method really is disgustingly easy. You don't even have to retreat after a picture like the 3D printing example. You can just go to a closet somewhere for the process. You can return the key in seconds, and have your own ready to go in minutes.

    I saw a version of this where a steel key blank was cut down past the teeth and put into the mold before any metal was poured (in this case it was a fairly hard lead alloy, I believe they were wheel weights). They didn't fuse together, but they were a perfect match that could then be attached with superglue. The casting interfaced with the pins and the steel took the strain of turning the cylinder.

    One could use gallium. Its melting point is lower than the human body but above typical room temp. You can melt it by holding it. It's soft and as a key you cannot use it with your hand. However if you work fast you could make a cast and then cut a new blank. Same process but no heat source needed. If you work in a cold environment you maintain the solid state. There are numerous alloys of gallium for specific melting points. Wood's metal also contains about 25% lead, not as bad as cadmium but has its toxicity concerns too. If you see a good price for Field's metal it's probably Wood's metal. Field's is expensive. It contains indium instead of lead and cadmium, costly stuff. I wonder if a cast could be made with water. Fill with water, freeze it, ice key. Have to work fast or in freezing environment. Nice thing would be if it breaks in the lock it won't matter. Clamp in key duplicator smashes it?

    I love that her credits deviant as much as he does. I watched deviants video a few months ago and ordered roses metal to do this and it worked fine. But thats the problem with this. There is now cheap experiment kit. Nobody just sells a couple of keys worth of metal at a reasonable price so I got roses metal as it was cheaper and I could order like 50 grams or something.

    Here's a tip. Use rosin cored lead/tin solder wire. Throw that into your edc together with a butane soldering iron/torch. Far easier to explain away than weird metal alloys etc.
