this animation is even better if you understand cirque, as the animators so obviously did. Firstly, the special bond that creating a synchronized piece requires is akin to telepathy. You must be so close to your partner that you can read their mind as if it were your own. Secondly, the drop at the end of the piece is a real one that I have completed before. The person doing the drop gets most of the spotlight in the move, but the real credit goes to the base on top. The force exerted on the silk makes the top girl's position unimaginably painful, symbolizing the trials she goes through in the relationship. The animation is beautiful at face value, but a greater understanding of cirque revealed how deep the symbolism goes.

I love the symbolism of the dance juxtaposed with their dialogue. Start out together, climb up to success, help each other, then Not-Claire (don't know her name) climbs up further and becomes successful enough to launch her own solo career, but she won't succeed unless Claire lets her go while still having her back. The ending shows them at their beginning, equals connected by the same thread who will eventually unravel and become two separate strings due to their ultimately different goals, which are shown by what each of them is looking at-Claire at her partner (a more personal love for their art), and her partner at the audience (a more professional love for it). Absolutely lovely. And the emotional tension is not only real but wonderfully accompanied by the colour palettes at every turn. Brilliant!!

My analysis: the two are in a relationship or breaking off their relationship. The ribbon dance represents their journey as a couple. In the first scene of the ribbon, there’s a huge red line that divides them. This foreshadows that they aren’t happily in love and are simply just living in the ‘gaps’ between them. In the next scenes, the dancers climb and this represents them developing individually rather than together. In the last scene with the top lady balancing the other lady; this shows the climax of their relationship. One is fully committed and wants to keep up the relationship, but the other loses hope. Eventually their bond breaks and one of them ‘loses’. In the last scene, the lady drops the other one and suddenly she is left hanging. This part shows how even though one of them is not feeling the love, she still cares for her. I’ve seen in a comment: about how in the last scene both woman have an important role in that dance. The one on the top is holding everything together, but the other is ultimately risking her life. This symbolises how the relationship wasn’t so one sided. There was a certain amount of co-dependency. P.s at the start: when the lady comes in dress up; she’s singing ‘dream a little dream of me’ a song about not having the words to say ‘I Love You” this just highlights the fact that they were both in a shadow of doubt and ignorance and that their experience is something that strikes a deeper part of you.

I love the background of their dressing room. The clutter of Claire’s side and the stark organization of the other side. The way one of the few things posted there is a clock and a photo of just one dancer. Meanwhile Claire’s side proudly displays photos of both of them not dancing as well as outside of performance. The way Claire’s stuff rolls over to the other side and the other character brushes it away and then grabs it in frustration when it doesn’t stay on the others side. Absolutely wonderful.

John Ray I think it can mean both. The thing about art is that everyone interprets it differently. I like how this animation leaves more room for this open interpretation rather than having an obvious answer.

Bravo! The character designs and the story were integrated so well. The body shapes and the expressions are simplified but not so much that you couldn't empathize with them. This is great. Relationships between collaborating preformers/artists can be very strenuous, complicated and intimate. Especially when the things you preform require full commitment and trust in one another to pull off. Art is a very personal thing, especially when you are making art with someone else. Because of this, the person you are collaborating with deeply influences the performance that is also yours. And it's extremely frustrating and can destroy friendships. But, before anything else, whatever conflicts you have behind the scenes as artists, the performance comes first. As soon as you are performing, you NEED to put everything aside and trust each other fully and carry each other.

What I’m getting from the film is a relationship that is toxic and that they have to put on a show and not talk about the issues in their relationship. They are a duo and when the first woman was falling she was barely saved, I think that meant in some way that Claire betrayed her and almost let her go but the ties caught her keeping her in the relationship and having to do it over and over again until one day the ties don’t catch her

I really love this animation and everything about it! The visuals and underlying story are great and interesting, composition and colors are great along with character design and music, and the way the story is unveiled is really creative and engaging! A great job was done, putting this beautiful masterpeice together!

with the separation of the duo I had a kind of 'break up' vibe, even if that isn't the case, gosh french animation always feels intense or dramatic no matter what they do, I love it!
